2023 NBA Finals Future Bets To Place Now

The 2022 NBA Finals have concluded, with the Golden State Warriors lifting their fourth Larry O’Brien Trophy in eight seasons. Now, the attention shifts over to the 2023 Finals.

The Warriors and Boston Celtics — this year’s NBA Finals participants — are among the favorites to capture the title next June. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few more teams worth placing a futures bet on as the league officially begins its offseason.

Miami Heat (+1000)

All throughout the year, teams like the Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, and even Brooklyn Nets all received more Finals consideration than the top-seeded Miami Heat. And sure enough, all three of those teams currently boast greater odds of winning the ‘23 Finals than Erik Spoelstra’s crew in South Beach.

The Heat battled injuries throughout the regular season and postseason yet still came within four points of a Game 7 win in the Eastern Conference Finals. Next year, Miami is set to return Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro as its core while also boasting one of the most impressive benches in the NBA.

However, the reason to love Miami’s title odds for next year has to do with who isn’t on its roster. If we know anything about Pat Riley, it’s that he is always able to make blockbuster moves right under everyone’s noses. Considering how close the Heat were to a second Finals appearance in three seasons, you can expect Riley to go all-in for next season.

Even if the Heat’s roster for next season looks a lot like this one, they will still be one of the top seeds in the East. But you should consider grabbing them at +1000 before Riley makes a huge move that shoots them up the leaderboard.

Denver Nuggets (+1400)

Led by back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic, the Denver Nuggets managed to win 48 games in the 2021-22 season. However, following a quick first-round exit against the eventual champion Warriors, their +1400 title odds make them fifth among Western Conference teams and ninth overall.

Everyone knows about Jokic’s greatness at this point, where the big man has a statistical case for being the league’s best player. But many forget that the Nuggets played almost the entire season without Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr., their second and third-best players. Porter played nine games before undergoing back surgery, while Murray missed the year recovering from a torn ACL suffered in April 2021.

The last time Denver had Jokic, Murray, and Porter together in the playoffs, it advanced to the 2020 Western Conference Finals. While their year ended with a five-game loss to the future champion Los Angeles Lakers, the Nuggets proved that when healthy, they’re as strong as any contender out there.

Considering Murray and MPJ nearly suited up late this season, both of them should be more than ready to go by the fall. Assuming the Joker is still playing at an MVP level, the Nuggets should be well-equipped for a title run in 2023.

Cleveland Cavaliers (+8000)

Yes, the Cleveland Cavaliers finished 44-38, their best mark since the LeBron James era. They also fell short of reaching the postseason following back-to-back losses in the play-in tournament. So how will the Cavs go from playoff outsider and a longshot title contender at +8000 to a potential champion?

First, it’s important to remember that Cleveland was the three-seed as recently as the All-Star break. Second, its fall down the standings coincides with All-Star big man Jarrett Allen playing his last regular-season contest on March 6. Not to mention, Collin Sexton’s torn meniscus ended his campaign after just 11 games.

Even without Sexton, the Cavaliers were 26-14 in games with Allen, Darius Garland, and Evan Mobley playing together. That trio had elite potential on both sides of the ball, outscoring opponents by eight points per 100 possessions. Basketball-Reference also gave the Cavs the highest percentage of winning the East on its Playoff Probabilities Report from just after the season’s halfway point.

Whether Sexton re-signs or the team makes a big splash elsewhere, the Cavaliers are in a very good position to do some damage next season. If there’s one longshot worth betting on a surprise NBA Finals victory, they’re the obvious choice.
