NFL Coach of the Year Future Betting Predictions

The NFL Coach of the Year may not be the flashiest award, but the NFL Head Coach is the most important out of all four major sports leagues.

Bettors need to look at the historical trends of this award to make realistic predictions for this year's Coach of the Year. Below are some trends of previous winners.

● Six of the last 14 winners were first-year head coaches.

● 15 of the last 17 winners lead their teams to at least 11 wins.

● Over the last ten years, the average win improvement is 5.6 games, and the previous season's average number of wins has been 6.6.

Based on these filters, 3-4 NFL Head Coaches could take home Coach of the Year in 2022.

Brian Daboll - New York Giants (+1300)

The New York Giants finished the 2021 season with a 4-13 record. A lot of that could be due to the fact they had some horrible injury luck. Daniel Jones missed seven games, Saquon Barkley missed four games, and between Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard, and Kadarius Toney, they missed a total of 24 games.

Let's be honest; many of their troubles came from the coaching. Between Joe Judge and Jason Garrett, it couldn't get much worse.

Enter Brian Daboll.

By coaching Josh Allen the last few years, I believe Daboll can unlock another gear for Daniel Jones and this Giants offense. Bringing in a guy with a fresh approach and a history of success may be what Daniel Jones needs.

With Vegas having their win total set at 7 games, Daboll should be able to have this team improve their win total by 4-6 games easily. New York faces the easiest schedule based on forecasted win totals. While the NFC East is always up for grabs, winning this division in his first season will be tough. Brian Daboll should have these guys competitive for most of the season and could contend for a wild-card spot.

Kevin O'Connell - Minnesota Vikings (+1500)

Let us hope the 2022 NFL season brings peace between Kirk Cousin and his Head Coach. It was no secret that former Vikings HC Mike Zimmer and Kirk Cousin didn't always see eye to eye.

Kevin O'Connell is another one of Sean McVay's coaching predecessors. O'Connell was the Rams' Offensive Coordinator for the last two seasons and helped the Rams win last year's Super Bowl.

Kevin O'Connell will be reuniting with Kirk Cousins as he was his QB coach during his 2017 season with the Washington Redskins. With the two already having some chemistry, there shouldn't be too much of a learning curve heading into the 2022 season.

The NFC North Division should be a realistic goal for the Minnesota Vikings. The Chicago Bears may end up with the worst record in the league, while the Lions will be competitive but still a few years away. As for the Green Bay Packer, many think they could take a step back this year as losing Davante Adams hurts tremendously. But never count out Aaron Rodgers.

If Kevin O'Connell can lead the Viking to a Division title and make a run in the NFC Playoffs, he would provide an enticing case for Coach of the Year.

Dennis Allen - New Orleans Saints (+2500)

Sean Payton's resignation leaves former defensive coordinator Dennis Allen in the driver's seat.

Dennis Allen will still call the defensive plays and try to duplicate last year's defensive efforts. The saints were able to notch 9 wins last year despite starting four different QBs. A lot of those 9 wins were due to excellent play by the defense. The Saints were the only team to rank inside the top 5 in stopping the run and pass, according to DVOA.

What about the offense?

Good news, Sean Payton's right-hand man, Pete Carmichael, is staying in New Orleans and will call the offensive plays. Despite Payton receiving a lot of the credit for the Saint's offensive accolades. Pete Carmichael was the man behind the curtain, putting together an intricate game plan and helping make in-game adjustments.

The Saints upgraded their WR room by drafting Chris Olave, signing Jarvis Landry, and getting Michael Thomas back from injury.

The Saints get the ninth easiest schedule in 2022 and have dominated their divisional games in recent years. Over the last five years, the Saints are 23-7 against divisional opponents, including 4-0 the last two years against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.
