Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Cleveland Guardians August 3 Betting Preview

Offensively, Christian Walker hit his 25th home run of the season and second of the series. He added three runs batted in. Carson Kelly went three for four with a home run and two runs scored.

Cleveland managed just six hits on the night. Catcher Luke Maile had two of those hits with two runs batted in.

Arizona will send 25-year-old lefty Tommy Henry to the mound to make his major league debut. In 20 games for triple-A, he is 4-4 with a 3.83 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and had 100 strikeouts in 108 innings.

The Guardians will counter with ace Shane Bieber. In 19 games, he is 5-6 with a 3.41 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and has 118 strikeouts in 118.2 innings. In his last start, he went seven innings, allowing just one run and striking out eight in a win against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Arizona Tries To Pick Up Rare Road Series Win

At 46-57 overall, it has been a pretty rough season for the Arizona Diamondbacks. They sit in fourth in the NL West, 23.5 games behind the Dodgers. While they have been respectable at home (27-27), they have struggled on the road (19-30) and will be looking for a rare road series win.

First baseman Christian Walker has been electric in this series. Hitting two home runs in two days, he is now hitting .203/.306/.454 with a team-leading 25 home runs and 58 runs batted in.

Ketel Marte has also had a decent season. He is hitting .260/.349/.452 with 10 home runs, 36 runs batted in, and a team-high 52 runs scored.

Guardians Stay Quiet On Trade Deadline Day As Rival Makes Moves

With a loss by the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday, the Guardians still remain just a single game back in the AL Central. Still, the Guardians saw the Twins bolster their roster, particularly with pitching improvements like Tyler Mahle, Jorge Lopez, and Michael Fulmer.

With the additions, the Guardians know that they have an even taller task to overtake the Twins in the division.

While the Guardians didn’t make any major trades on Tuesday, they did make one notable move as they sent designated hitter Franmil Reyes down to the minors. Struggling much of this season, Reyes was hitting just .213/.254/.350 with nine home runs.

In a corresponding move, the Guardians activated Oscar Gonzalez from the injured list. This season, Gonzalez has hit .283/.313/.425 with two home runs and 14 runs batted in over 127 at bats.

Trying to lead the Guardians to a win Wednesday is All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez. This season, he is hitting .284/.358/.561 with a team-leading 21 home runs, 85 runs batted in, 60 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases.

Cleveland Looks To Bieber To Finish Series Win

For the Cleveland Guardians, they couldn’t ask for a better matchup as their ace takes the mound against a rookie making his major league debut.

Especially as they are about to welcome the Houston Astros to town for a four-game series, Cleveland would love to finish this series with a win. They will have the advantage playing at home, where they are 26-20, but if Shane Bieber can pitch to his ability, the offense should only have to put up a couple runs to get the job done.
