Baltimore Orioles vs. Cleveland Guardians August 30 Betting Odds & Analysis

Postseason hopefuls will battle it out Monday in the first of a three-game series as the Baltimore Orioles (67-60) take on the Cleveland Guardians (67-59). The Guardians will host this one at Progressive Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:10 p.m.

Over the weekend, the Orioles were able to take two of three from the Houston Astros, but they dropped the finale 3-1. Offensively, the team put together seven hits, but they were only able to manage a single run off of an RBI from Austin Hays. The team struck out 13 times and left 14 on base.

The Guardians are trying to bounce back after a rough weekend where they lost three of four to the Seattle Mariners. In Sunday’s finale, they were shutout 4-0. 

Cleveland picked up five hits in the game, but never really threatened against the Mariners. They struck out nine times and left 10 on base.

Both of these teams enjoyed the day off on Monday.

Pitching Matchup

Baltimore will turn to 30-year-old Spenser Watkins Tuesday. In 18 games, he is 4-4 with a 3.96 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and he has 53 strikeouts in 84 innings.

The Guardians will counter with righty Cal Quantrill. He is 10-5 in 24 games with a 3.59 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and he has 94 strikeouts in 143 innings.

Not The Same Old Orioles Anymore

After years of losing, the Baltimore Orioles look like they are just starting to crack the window open of what may become several years of great baseball in Maryland. At 67-60, they sit just 1.5 games behind the Blue Jays for the final Wild Card spot and are desperately trying to make a push.

Offensively, the team has been led by outfielder Anthony Santander. In 449 at bats, he is hitting .258/.335/.459 with a team-leading 23 home runs and 73 runs batted in.

Albeit in limited at bats, Cedric Mullins has had some success against the Guardians’ Cal Quantrill. He is two for four against the righty with a home run and two runs batted in.

Little Room For Error For Cleveland

Leading by just a couple games in the AL Central, the Cleveland Guardians know that they don’t have much room for error. Still, with the 10th-easiest remaining schedule in the majors, they are set up well to take home the division title.

Leading the team’s offense is All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez. In 467 at bats, he is hitting .283/.353/.548 with a team-leading 26 home runs, 106 runs batted in, and 71 runs scored.

This will be the first time anyone on the Guardians has squared off with the Orioles’ Spenser Watkins.

Guardians Look To Get Off On Right Foot By Winning Opener

The trends seem to favor Cleveland in this one. Even though Baltimore is 5-2 in their last seven games, they are just 1-6 in their last seven games against the Guardians. Even more, they are winless in their last six games at Progressive Field.

The Guardians had a rough weekend against Seattle, but Cal Quantrill has a really good opportunity to get them back on track. It won’t be easy against an underrated Orioles’ team, but if he can limit the damage, the Guardians are set up well to win the opener.
