Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians July 12 Doubleheader Betting Odds & Picks

Let’s play two! On Tuesday, the Chicago White Sox (41-44) and Cleveland Guardians will square off in a doubleheader at Progressive Field, with the first pitch for the first game scheduled for 1:10 p.m.

In Monday’s opener of this four-game series, the Guardians prevailed 8-4. In the win, Cal Quantrill allowed four runs on eight hits over six innings of work.

Offensively, Nolan Jones continued his torrid start to his MLB career with a two for three night, adding four runs batted in and scoring two runs. Franmil Reyes also added three hits, a run batted in, and two runs scored.

Yoan Moncada hit his fourth home run of the season, a three-run homer off of Quantrill in the third innings, but it just wasn’t enough for the White Sox to prevail.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Guardians are the favorites playing at home. They are -162 to win while the White Sox moneyline sits at +136. The runline features Chicago +1.5 (-152), and the over/under for total runs is eight.

Pitching Matchup

In the first game of the day, the White Sox will send righty Davis Martin (1-2, 4.29 ERA, 17 K) to the mound. The Guardians will counter with righty Shane Bieber (3-5, 3.44 ERA, 99 K).

In the nightcap, Tony La Russa will give the ball to righty Dylan Cease (7-4, 2.45 ERA, 133 K). The Guardians will go with lefty Konnor Pilkington (1-1, 4.08 ERA), 34 K) in the second game.

White Sox Trying To Find Some Traction

As the preseason favorites to win the AL Central, the White Sox have struggled to live up to those expectations as they sit 41-44 overall, 5.5 games back in the division. With rumors swirling of dissention in the clubhouse, getting back in the win column could certainly help the club.

Offensively, first baseman Jose Abreu continues to lead the team. In 319 at bats, he is hitting .295/.379/.461 with ten home runs, 40 runs batted in, and 49 runs scored.

Abreu has also had success against Guardians’ righty Shane Bieber in his career. In 33 at bats, Abreu is hitting .273 with three home runs and four runs batted in.

Guardians Trying To Make This A Two-Horse Race In Division

While Cleveland sits four games behind the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central, they would love to create some separation between themselves and the third-place White Sox. With Chicago, just 1.5 games behind them in the standings, Tuesday presents a great opportunity to add some more breathing room.

This will be the first time any Guardians’ hitter has seen Davis Martin, but a couple of players have had some success against Game 2 starter Dylan Cease. Franmil Reyes is hitting .444 in nine at bats with a home run and two runs batted in. Austin Hedges has also homered and drove in two against the righty.

While he won’t be able to maintain his current pace, the Guardians are hoping Nolan Jones is the real deal. He has certainly had a great first week as he is hitting .538/.625/.923 with a home run and eight runs driven in over his first four games.

Guardians Look To Home Field Advantage Tuesday

Tuesday presents a great opportunity to move back over .500 while also creating some separation with the White Sox in the standings.

In Game 1, the Guardians clearly have the better pitcher going as Shane Bieber hopes to pick up an early win for Cleveland. In Game 2, the Guardians will have their hands full against one of the best pitchers in the division this year in Dylan Cease.

Still, the Guardians have had some success at home lately. They are 4-2 in their last six games at Progressive Field and 5-1 in their last six at home against the White Sox.

On paper, the Guardians sit really well for the first game, and if the Guardians’ offense can figure out Dylan Cease, they may just be able to take both ends of the doubleheader.
