On Tuesday evening, the Chicago Cubs take on the Cincinnati Reds in a battle of two teams well out of playoff contention in the National League Central.

The total for this game is set at 7.5 runs, as the line has gone back and forth leading up to this game. While it moved to eight early on Monday, it is officially back at 7.5.

Something that is also worth noting is that the first inning run market is split down the middle for this game. The run in the first inning wager is set at right around (-110) for yes and no, giving no clear indication as to whether or not we will see early scoring here.

Whether or not we get first inning runs will go a long way in determining whether or not this game will reach its full game total after nine innings of play.

Pitching Matchup

So far, though, Justin Dunn of the Reds and Wade Miley of the Cubs have had very different results during the 2022 season, which is important to note.

But the concerning thing for Dunn is that he has allowed seven home runs in those innings, giving up at least one home run in all five of his outings so far this year. That inability to keep the ball in the park could help this game go over the total.

On the other hand, the performance of Wade Miley so far this season has been very friendly to the under in this scenario. Miley is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 19 innings of work.

He has yet to give up a home run this season, and whether or not he can continue that trend will go a long way in determining where this game lands relative to the total.

Matchup Trends

High-scoring games have become somewhat commonplace between the Cubs and Reds in their recent meetings. Six of their last seven games have seen eight or more runs scored, with four of those six games seeing double-digit run totals between the two teams.
