Cincinnati Reds vs. San Diego Padres Series Betting Preview

The Cincinnati Reds will travel out west to take on the San Diego Padres for a three-game series starting Monday at 9:40 p.m. The Reds are coming off two straight series sweeps against the Cleveland Guardians and Los Angeles Dodgers. That brings them to a six-game skid with a record of 2-8 and dead last in the NL Central.

The Padres, on the other hand, were able to split their series with the Atlanta Braves by winning the first and fourth games of the four-game series. They now sit at 6-5 in fourth in the NL West. They will continue their long homestand in this series against the Reds and then the Dodgers before traveling to Cincinnati to take on the Reds at Great American Ballpark.

Let’s take a look ahead at this National League showdown starting on Monday night.

Betting Odds

San Diego opens as 1.5 run favorites against the Reds with odds of +120 to cover that spread. The Reds, at +1.5, have odds of -140 to cover the spread. The total number of runs expected in the game is 7.5, with odds of -115 to bet the over and -105 to bet the under. The Reds have odds of +145 to win the game outright, unlike the Padres, who have odds of -165 to accomplish this same feat.

Expected Pitching Matchup

Left-hander Nick Lodolo is expected to get his second start of the season and for the major leagues for the Reds. He struggled greatly in his MLB debut, giving up five runs on seven hits in only four innings pitched. This gives him an 11.25 ERA to go with an 0-1 record. He is hoping that his pitching performance improves as he gains more experience in the major leagues.

For the Padres, Sean Manaea is expected to take the mound. Also, a lefty, Manaea is 1-1 with a 1.38 ERA and 13 strikeouts. Last time out, he took the loss, but he only gave up two runs on four hits in six innings pitched at San Francisco. He is hoping to use his experience to dominate the Reds, who have been struggling greatly as of late.

Expected Outcome

As expected, I don’t think the Reds have the ability to win this game behind the arm of Nick Lodolo and the Reds lackluster offense. They currently have the worst record in baseball, and they won’t be turning anything around this game. Furthermore, I expect the Reds to lose by more than one after watching Lodolo’s first outing in the Majors.

As an Ohio sports fan, it pains me how badly the Reds have played. Since the Reds owner, Phil Castenelli, has made the comments daring Reds fans to walk away from the Reds, they are 0-6. I hate to say it, but it won’t get any better anytime soon. Until the Reds organization can make up for the letdown they have caused their fans, I have no trust in this team to win games.
