Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox July 24 Betting Preview

AL Central rivals will square off in the finale of a four-game series on Sunday as the Cleveland Guardians (48-45) take on the Chicago White Sox (47-48). The White Sox will host this one at Guaranteed Rate Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 2:10 pm ET.

After taking the first game on Friday, the Guardians followed up by taking the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, 7-4. Triston McKenzie went 5.2 innings, allowing just one run, while Steven Kwan went three for five with two runs and two runs batted in.

Yasmani Grandal went three for four with a run batted in for the White Sox. Eloy Jimenez hit his third home run of the season.

For Cleveland, Konnor Pilkington went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Bryan Shaw took the loss in relief, giving up two runs in 1.2 innings. Offensively, Jose Ramirez and Andres Gimenez had two hits apiece.

The White Sox are the favorites on Sunday playing at home. They are -134 to win while the Guardians’ moneyline sits at +116. The runline features Cleveland +1.5 (-192), and the over/under for total runs is 7.5.

Pitching Matchup

For those that love pitcher’s duels, Sunday should be a great one.

Cleveland will send ace Shane Bieber to the mound. In 17 games, Bieber is 4-5 with a 3.24 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and has 106 strikeouts in 105.2 innings. 

He picked up a win over the White Sox in his last outing, throwing a complete game and allowing just one run.

For the White Sox, they will send righty Dylan Cease to the mound. In 19 games, Cease is 9-4 with a 2.15 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, and he has a whopping 150 strikeouts in 104.2 innings. In his last three starts, Cease has allowed just one run in 18.2 innings while striking out 25.

Cleveland Looks To Stay Hot

At 48-45, the Cleveland Guardians sit in second in the AL Central, two games behind the first-place Minnesota Twins. Having won seven of their last ten games, the Guardians will look to stay hot and secure a series win on Sunday.

Keep an eye on Franmil Reyes in this one. In 12 career at bats against Cease, Reyes is hitting .333 with a home run and two runs batted in.

Collectively, the Guardians are 22 for 75 with two home runs against the righty.

The best hitter for the Guardians has been third baseman Jose Ramirez. In 342 at bats, the switch-hitting third baseman is hitting .287/.362/.570 with a team-leading 19 home runs, 78 runs batted in, 54 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases.

Chicago Trying To Find Consistency

Under Hall-of-Fame manager Tony La Russa, the White Sox have surprisingly been one of the game’s most inconsistent teams this season. At 47-48, they sit four games back in the division and will look to pull within one game of the Guardians with a win Sunday.

The White Sox have seen Shane Bieber plenty of times, and Jose Abreu has produced the most against the righty. In 36 at bats, Abreu is hitting .278 with three home runs and four runs batted in off of Bieber.

Others who have had success against Bieber include Yoan Moncada (.273 avg, 2 HR, 3 RBI), Eloy Jimenez (.364 avg, RBI), and Tim Anderson (.265 avg, 2 RBI).

Expect Low Scoring Pitcher’s Duel

With two pitchers that can absolutely dominate a game on the mound Sunday, runs could come at a premium in this one. With that in mind, it is not surprising to see the total runs set at 7.5.

Still, the Guardians have gone 5-1 in their last six games, and they are 8-4 in their last 12 against the White Sox.

It won’t be easy going against Dylan Cease, but if the offense can even put up just a couple of runs, Shane Bieber may be able to take care of the rest.
