Tuesday night will feature the second of a three-game series as the Cleveland Guardians (15-14) take on the Chicago White Sox (14-14). The White Sox will host this one at Guaranteed Rate Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:10 pm ET.

Monday was a wild night as the Cleveland Guardians scored six runs in the ninth inning to erase an 8-2 deficit. In the end, the Guardians won 12-9 in 11 innings.

Leading the charge for the Guardians was Josh Naylor, who absolutely went off towards the end of the game. Not only did he hit a game-tying grand slam in the ninth inning, but he hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the 11th. In total, he went three for five with two home runs and eight runs batted in.

Guardians’ starter Zach Plesac went 6.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks. He struck out four.

Offensively, Gavin Sheets hit his second home run of the season while A.J. Pollock hit his first.

Betting Odds

The White Sox are the favorites playing at home Tuesday. They are -180 to win while the Guardians’ moneyline sits at +152. The runline features Cleveland +1.5 (-137), and the over/under for total runs sits at 7.5.

Pitching Matchup

The Guardians will send righty Cal Quantrill to the mound Tuesday to try to even up the series. This season, he is 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and has 17 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched.

The White Sox will counter with ace Lucas Giolito. In four starts, he is 1-1 with a 3.20 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and has 32 strikeouts in just 19.2 innings of work.

By The Numbers

Early on in the season, neither of these two teams have had eye-popping power numbers. The Guardians rank 14th in home runs with 26. The White Sox rank 17th with 25.

On the mound, it is Chicago with the advantage. In terms of earned run average, the White Sox rank eighth with a team 3.33 ERA. The Guardians rank 24th with a 4.04 ERA.

Cleveland Trying To Cool Down White Sox

With Cleveland’s win on Monday, they snapped a seven-game win streak for the White Sox. While it will be tough with Lucas Giolito on the mound, the Guardians will try to add another loss onto their division rivals Tuesday.

One player to keep an eye on is third baseman Jose Ramirez. In 25 at bats against Giolito, he is hitting .280 with a home run and three runs batted in.

Outside of Ramirez, the rest of the Guardians’ hitters are a combined seven for 51 against the big right-hander.

Chicago Starting To Flex Its Muscles

There is a reason that many expected the White Sox to run away with the division again this year. Despite the loss on Monday, they showed over the last week that they have the ability to put up wins in a hurry in the AL Central.

Despite having the third-best record in the division, they are still the favorites to win the AL Central at -115.

Scary for the AL Central; they are also starting to get healthy. While players like Lance Lynn and Eloy Jimenez remained sidelined, on Monday, both Yoan Moncada and Joe Kelly were activated from the injured list.

Last season, Moncada hit .263/.375/.412 with 14 home runs, 61 runs batted in, and 74 runs scored in 520 at bats. Adding his name to a lineup that already includes Jose Abreu, Luis Robert, Tim Anderson, and others makes an already scary lineup that much more intimidating.

Guardians Need Quantrill To Be Exceptional

While Lucas Giolito has given up three earned runs in each of his last two starts, he still has the stuff to be dominant anytime he touches the mound.

For that reason, the Guardians are going to need Cal Quantrill to be on Tuesday night if they have any hope of securing the series win. Quantrill certainly has the ability to do it, but he is going to have to limit the free passes as he has given up a combined 11 walks in his last three starts.

If he can limit the damage, the Guardians’ offense has the opportunity to pick up the road win. After Chicago’s bullpen collapse Monday, the Guardians will try to pounce on them early and take advantage of any carryover effect from the opener.

It won’t be easy, but Cleveland has already proven this series that they have a lot of fight in them.
