A National League battle of central versus west will take place on Wednesday as the Cleveland Guardians (30-27) take on the Colorado Rockies (27-35). The Rockies will host this one at Coors Field with first pitch scheduled for 8:40 p.m.

The Guardians took the opener of this three-game series on Tuesday 4-3 in 10 innings. Shane Bieber went 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out seven. Bryan Shaw picked up the win in relief.

Offensively, Jose Ramirez had another big day as he went two for four with three runs batted in. Amed Rosario, Josh Naylor, and Steven Kwan combined for seven hits.

Charlie Blackmon hit his 10th home run of the season in this one. In total, the Rockies had nine hits, but they left 18 stranded on base.

Pitching Matchup

Cleveland will send lefty Konnor Pilkington to the bump trying to secure a series win. In seven games, he is 1-0 with a 3.57 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and has 25 strikeouts in 22.2 innings of work. He took a no-decision in his last start against the A’s as he gave up four runs in 5.2 innings.

Colorado will start a lefty of their own in Austin Gomber. In 11 games, Gomber is 3-6 with a 6.17 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and has 45 strikeouts in 58.1 innings.

Guardians Look To Stay Hot

With their extra inning win on Tuesday, the Cleveland Guardians have now won seven of their last 10 and sit just three games back of the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central. With a win on Wednesday, they would secure their fifth straight series win. They will also be looking to improve on their 14-17 road record this season.

While Jose Ramirez is hitless in two at bats versus Gomber, no other Guardians has squared off with the lefty. Still, Ramirez has had the best numbers against lefties as he has three home runs and 13 runs batted in.

Andres Gimenez has also done well against southpaws. In fact, in 28 at bats, he is hitting .393/.414/.536 with a home run and four runs batted in.

Rockies Trying To Get Back Into Win Column

At +100000, the Rockies have the longest odds of winning the NL West this season. Before they can even think about a division run, though, they will try to just get back into the win column as they have lost six of their last 10 games.

No Rockies player has faced off with Pilkington in their careers, but against lefties, C.J. Cron and Brendan Rodgers have the best numbers for Colorado. For Cron, he is hitting just .233/.299/.483, but he has a team-high four home runs and 12 runs batted in against lefties.

For Rodgers, he is hitting .314/.375/.529 with three home runs and nine runs batted in against southpaws.

Good Opportunity For Cleveland To Get Another Win

With their win on Tuesday, the Guardians are now just 3-9 at Coors Field in their history. Still despite their poor record at Coors, they are now 4-2 overall in their last six road games and 6-3 in their last nine against the Rockies.

While Konnor Pilkington is no sure thing, the Guardians should have a good opportunity to put up runs against a struggling Austin Gomber.

If Pilkington can limit the damage, the Guardians should secure their fifth straight series win and add another tally in the win column.
