Cleveland Guardians vs. Kansas City Royals September 6 Betting Preview

In what felt like a must-win game, the Cleveland Guardians (69-64) were able to get back in the win column Monday as they took the opener against the Kansas City Royals (55-81). The second game of the series will take place at Kauffman Stadium Tuesday, with first pitch scheduled for 8:10 p.m.

The final of Monday’s game was a 6-5 Cleveland victory in 10 innings. Triston McKenzie went 5.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits. Eli Morgan picked up the win in relief.

The Guardians hammered 12 hits, including two apiece by Steven Kwan, Oscar Gonzalez, Andres Gimenez, and Myles Straw. Josh Naylor added his 17th home run of the season.

For the Royals, Brady Singer gave up four runs (three earned) in six innings. Carlos Hernandez picked up the loss in relief as he gave up two runs (one earned) in extras.

Drew Waters went two for four in the loss. He hit his first home run while driving in two runs.

The Guardians are the overwhelming favorites Tuesday. They are (-205) to win, while the Royals’ moneyline sits at (+165). The runline features Kansas City +1.5 (-107), and the over/under for total runs is 7.5.

Pitching Matchup

Ace Shane Bieber will take the ball Tuesday for Terry Francona’s club. He is 8-8 with a 3.06 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and he has 164 strikeouts in 159 innings.

The Royals will turn to lefty Kris Bubic in this one. He is 2-10 with a 5.47 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and he has 84 strikeouts in 105.1 innings.

Guardians Look To Build Momentum

After losing three straight series, the Cleveland Guardians have the opportunity to secure a series win on Tuesday. Behind their ace, who has given up five runs in his last 20.1 innings, Cleveland will try to make it back-to-back wins.

Against lefties, Jose Ramirez has been one of the Guardians’ best hitters. He leads the team with six home runs and 22 runs batted in against southpaws.

Others who have hit lefties well include Amed Rosario (.292 avg, 4 HR, 12 RBI), Andres Gimenez (.310 avg, 3 HR, 11 RBI), and Oscar Gonzalez (.278 avg, 2 HR, 6 RBI).

Youth Is Served In Kansas City

Currently sitting 15.5 games back in the AL Central, the Kansas City Royals’ season will be ending in about 26 games. Still, as the team looks towards the future, they are trying to evaluate what they have in some of their youth.

Drew Waters is one example of a young star looking to find his groove. Hitting his first career home run Monday night, the 23-year-old is now hitting .237/.326/.395 with a home run, five runs batted in, and six runs in 38 at bats.

22-year-old Bobby Witt Jr has arguably been the Royals’ best hitter this season. In 488 at bats, he is hitting .248/.290/.443 with 20 home runs, 70 runs batted in, 69 runs scored, and 26 stolen bases.

Guardians Look To Make It Two In A Row

Cleveland is the favorite Tuesday and for good reason. Even though he may not have the gaudy numbers of previous years, Shane Bieber is still the ace of the Guardians’ rotation and gives Cleveland an opportunity to win every time out.

On the flip side, Kris Bubic has been roughed up all season, and the Guardians offense should have an opportunity to continue that trend Tuesday.

The Royals are a scrappy team that the Guardians can’t overlook, but if Shane Bieber can do his part, Cleveland should be able to make it two in a row with a win Tuesday.
