The OVER/UNDER Total Runs for this game is set at 7. Ready to bet on that for free in Ohio? Visit betJACK to place your bet now!

Thanks to a very strong pitching matchup, the total for this game is set at just seven runs, as both pitchers are expected to hold the competition in check. But both teams have plenty of hitting as well, and it will be interesting to see whether the arms or bats will win out on the total.

Houston Astros

The Houston Astros have one of the most potent offenses in Major League Baseball, but they struggled in the opening game of this series with their hitting.

Houston scored just two runs on Monday, losing 4-2 to Chicago in that matchup. On Tuesday, they will look to have a more productive offensive showing while getting another strong pitching performance from Justin Verlander.

Verlander is tasked with starting this game on the mound for the Astros as he looks to improve his case for the Cy Young award. He is 15-3 on the season, posting an ERA of 1.85 in 136 innings in 2022.

Verlander is pitching at close to the highest level of his career despite his age and his history of battling injuries and is certainly a welcome sight for those looking to bet the under here.

Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox were not great in their own right offensively on Monday, but they did just enough to win a tight 4-2 game over the Astros. Johnny Cueto delivered in a big way on the mound for the White Sox in that game, going eight innings and allowing just one earned run. On Tuesday, the White Sox are hoping for a similar performance from Dylan Cease.

Cease is pitching well this season in his own right, going 12-5, entering this matchup with an ERA of 1.96. He has struck out 174 batters in 128.2 innings and has been one of the best in the league at missing bats this year. Not allowing contact is so important against the Astros, given how hard they can hit the ball, and Cease will aim to continue to do so.

Keys to the Total

The biggest key to the total in this game is going to be whether either team can consistently get the ball in play. Both teams in this matchup are so good at hitting the ball hard when they do make contact but face pitchers that are elite strikeout artists here. The question will be whether either side can build high-scoring innings through contact to nullify the impact of either pitcher.

Also important will be how long into the game that both pitchers go. Verlander and Cease have the potential to throw dueling gems if their opponents do not run up their pitch counts and get them out of the game as early as possible.

How both teams pressure the opposing pitcher will go a long way in determining whether this game goes over or under the low total for this Tuesday night showdown.
