Guardians designated hitter Jose Ramirez dives safely to first base

The Cleveland Guardians (21-24) will look to break out the brooms as they try for the sweep of the Kansas City Royals (16-32) in the finale of a three-game series Wednesday. This game will be played at Progressive Field with first pitch scheduled for 1:10 p.m.

The Guardians took the second game of the series on Tuesday with a 8-3 win. In the victory, Cal Quantrill went 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five.

Offensively, Austin Hedges hit his fourth home run of the season. In total, the Guardians scored eight runs on 12 hits, despite leaving 15 on base.

For Kansas City, Daniel Lynch took the loss after allowing six runs on nine hits over just four innings. He also walked three in the defeat.

The Royals collected seven hits and left 13 on base, but the Guardians did a nice job of not letting them capitalize on too many opportunities. Hunter Dozier scored two of the three runs for Kansas City.

Betting Odds

The Guardians are the favorites in Wednesday’s game playing at home. They are -146 to win while the Royals’ moneyline sits at +124. The runline features Kansas City +1.5 (-176), and the over/under for total runs is nine.

Pitching Matchup

The Royals will send righty Brad Keller to the bump for the finale. This season, he is 1-5 with a 3.95 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and he has 32 strikeouts in 54.2 innings.

Cleveland will send Konnor Pilkington to square off with Keller. Pilkington is still looking for his first win as he is 0-0 with a 3.75 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and has 15 strikeouts over 12 innings. He took a no-decision in his last outing, giving up three earned runs in 3.1 innings against Detroit.

Royals Trying To Salvage Finale

At 16-32, it has been an utterly disappointing start to the season for the Royals’ faithful. As they see their team 12.5 games out of first in the AL Central, they will hope Kansas City can at least salvage one game in the finale.

This will be the first time that anyone on the Royals has faced Pilkington, but against lefties in general, Whit Merrifield has arguably had the most success. In 54 at bats versus southpaws, he is hitting .222/.241/.370 with a team-leading two home runs and six runs batted in.

One player that the Royals would love to see step up is catcher Salvador Perez. He has disappointed in 152 total at bats this season as he is hitting just .191/.226/.362 with six home runs and 16 runs batted in.

Guardians Inching Closer

With their win on Tuesday, the Guardians have inched a little bit closer in the standings as they now sit six games back of the Minnesota Twins. Now 5-5 over their last 10 games, Cleveland Will try to improve on their current 10-8 record at Progressive Field.

Several of the players have had early success when playing at Progressive Field. In home games, Jose Ramirez has had the most success hitting .286/.410/.540 with three home runs and 15 runs batted in.

Aside from Ramirez, though, Owen Miller (.292 avg., 2 HR, 11 RBI), Franmil Reyes (.340 avg., 2 HR, 6 RBI), and Andres Gimenez (.289 avg., 1 HR, 8 RBI) have all had some success at Progressive Field.

Great Opportunity For Pilkington To Pick Up First Win

The results early on have been pretty mixed for Konnor Pilkington, but Wednesday is a great opportunity for him to pick up his first win.

Not only have the Royals lost 10 of their last 12 games overall, but they are just 1-4 in their last five games against Cleveland. Furthermore, in their last 10 games at Progressive Field, they are just 2-8.

If the bats can come alive like they did on Tuesday, Pilkington should pick up his first win and the Guardians should be able to finish off the sweep.
