arold Varner III waits on the green during the third round of the RBC Heritage golf tournament

The second major championship is here for golf fans, with the 104th PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The action begins on Thursday, May 19th, with the winner hoisting the Wanamaker after the tournament on Sunday.

We’ve got a rundown of the best bets to make for finishing positions before the first wave of players tees off earlier Thursday morning. All the information you need is below.

Top picks for PGA Championship

Rickie Fowler (+220 to finish T40 or better) - The former no. 1 ranked amateur in the world has tumbled from the spotlight over the last few years as he’s seemingly lost his feel for the game. Regardless, the talent is there for the 33-year-old, and a T8 at last year’s PGA Championship tells us he can still compete with the best. In 12 career trips to the PGA Championship, Fowler has five top-25 finishes.

Harold Varner III (+350 to finish T20 or better) - Varner picked up his second professional win at the PIF Saudi International in February and has three straight top-25 finishes over his last three events. The 31-year-old hasn’t teed it up since the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, but we aren’t worried about the lack of competition.

Varner is T38 on tour in par-4 scoring and 11th in birdie average. He has made the cut in his last three PGA Championships, with his best finish a T29 in 2020. Expect Varner to exceed that finishing position this year in Tulsa.

Brooks Koepka (+400 to finish T10 or better) - Koepka has been quiet this season as he’s battled recent injuries and surgery earlier this year. The two-time PGA Champion loves this tournament and has finished T5 or better if five of the last seven events.

We haven’t seen Koepka since he missed the cut at Augusta, but the 32-year-old has a pair of top-10 finishes this season, both happening this year. Koepka has said he switched to another gear for major tournaments, so don’t be surprised if the four-time major champion finds himself on the front page of the leaderboard again come Sunday.

Cameron Smith (+600 to finish T5 or better) - The Aussie has a pair of victories in 2022 paired with a T3 at Augusta last month. A prolific iron player and putter, Smith, has the tools to navigate Southern Hills and give himself a chance at his first major victory.

The 28-year-old needs to be a bit better off the tee, but he ranks seventh in Strokes Gained: Approach The Green and fourth in SG: Putting. Five finishes inside the top-10 this year makes Smith a safe bet to end the tournament near the top.

Jordan Spieth (+1800 outright winner) - The Golden Child can become the sixth player in the history of modern golf to complete the Career Grand Slam. Spieth comes to Southern Hills in peak form with a win at the RBC Heritage and runner-up last week at the AT&T Bryon Nelson Classic in his last two events.

The pressure will be there for Spieth to complete the monumental feat, but the media’s distraction of Tiger Woods in the field might take some of that off of Spieth’s shoulders and free him up to play his game. The stars are aligning for the 28-year-old.
