Seattle Mariners vs. Cleveland Guardians September 3 Betting Preview

As frustrations continue in Cleveland, the Guardians (68-62) will look to snap out of their funk Saturday as they host the Seattle Mariners (74-58) for the second of their three-game series. The Guardians will host this one at Progressive Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

In Friday’s opener, the Mariners were victorious 6-1. Luis Castillo picked up the win after going six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out four.

Offensively, Cal Raleigh hit two home runs and finished the night with four runs batted in and two runs scored. Mitch Haniger also had two hits and added two runs batted in.

For Cleveland, Cody Morris took the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) in two innings. Bryan Shaw was also roughed up giving up three runs in just 1.1 innings.

The Guardians’ offense was able to put nine hits together. Josh Naylor and Oscar Gonzalez each had two hits, but the team was just not able to come up with the big hits to keep the game close.

The Mariners are the favorites Saturday despite playing on the road. They are (-154) to win while the Guardians’ moneyline sits at (+130). The runline features Cleveland (+1.5), and the over/under for total runs is 7.5.

Pitching Matchup

Trying to secure a series win, the Mariners will send reigning AL Cy Young award winner Robbie Ray to the mound. The lefty is 11-8 this season in 26 games with a 3.58 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and has 180 strikeouts in 155.2 innings.

Cleveland will turn to 24-year-old righty Xzavion Curry to try to cool down the red hot Mariners. In just one major league start, he went five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits to the Detroit Tigers in a no-decision in mid-August.

Seattle Looks To Keep Adding Wins

While they may sit 11 games back in the AL West, the Seattle Mariners seem like a force to be reckoned with as the playoffs approach. Currently sitting in a Wild Card spot, the Mariners have won eight of their last 10 games.

Scarily, the Mariners have been good at home (35-28), but they have been even better on the road (39-30). They will look to add another tally to their win column Saturday.

This will be the first time that any Mariners’ hitter has faced Xzavion Curry, but against righties, Eugenio Suarez has been one of their best hitters. In 353 at bats versus righties, he is hitting .227/.325/.433 with a team-leading 19 home runs and 56 runs batted in.

Continued Frustrations In Cleveland

To make things even worse, the Guardians rotation has taken a hit as both Zach Plesac and Aaron Civale were placed on the injured list. That is the reason that Curry will get just his second big league start Saturday.

Not too many Guardians’ hitters have had much success against Robbie Ray. Amed Rosario is hitting .500 in 10 at bats, but collectively, the team is just 11 for 65 against him.

Guardians Underdogs At Home

Looking at the pitching matchup alone, it is understandable why the Guardians are the underdogs in this one. While Xzavion Curry has potential, he will be making just his second start of his career against one of the best teams in baseball right now.

On the flip side, the Mariners will send Robbie Ray to the mound, who has won three straight games and has allowed just three earned runs in a combined 19.2 innings. In that span, he has allowed just 11 hits and has struck out 24.

Crazier things have happened, but the Guardians will have an uphill battle as they try to fend off the Twins for the top spot in the AL Central.
