Wimbledon Women's Winner Best Bets 2022

The oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world begins next Monday. Wimbledon, held at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, is more than 100 years old and one of four Grand Slams on the WTA Tour calendar. 

The grass court season began on June 6 with the Libema Open and Rothesay Open Nottingham. As of June 23, the Bad Homburg Open and Rothesday International Eastbourne were ongoing, with players getting their final tune-up in advance of Wimbledon 2022.

Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the Libema Open to win the first grass court tournament of the season. Ironically, both players won't be able to compete at Wimbledon as the tournament has banned all Russian and Belarussian players. 

Other players coming into Wimbledon with grass court titles include Ons Jabeur and Beatriz Haddad Maia, the latter of whom won both the Viking Classic Birmingham and Viking Open Nottingham and is now a career-high No. 29 in the world.

Why Swiatek is the Clear Favorite

Although Haddad Maia enters Wimbledon with considerable momentum, she's nowhere near a tournament betting favorite. That distinction belongs to Polish superstar Iga Swiatek (+150), who was ousted in the fourth round at last year's Wimbledon but has won six titles this season and is on a record-trying 35-match winning streak.

Swiatek won the French Open and hasn't played in more than a month since. She should be well-rested but could potentially suffer from a lack of familiarity on grass this season.

It's not often a player has +150 odds to win a tournament, let alone a Grand Slam like Wimbledon, but that speaks to how dominant Swiatek has been this season. She has a chance to have one of the best seasons for any woman in recent memory.

Other Top Betting Favorites

While there's no players from Ohio expected to compete at Wimbledon, there's plenty of Americans who have a chance to contend. Serena Williams, playing her first singles matches since last year's Wimbledon, is listed at +1800, which seems low considering she hasn't played in so long.

It's hard to imagine Williams winning Wimbledon at 40 and with so much time away from the game, but crazier things have happened. Other Americans in the tournament include Coco Gauff (+1000), Danielle Collins (+3300), and Jessica Pegula (+5000).

Outside of Swiatek, the top international betting favorites include Jabeur (+1200), Bencic (+2000), and Pliskova (+2200). Haddad Maia is also listed at +2200 or lower depending on the sportsbook. 

Underdogs Who Could Be in Contention

Haddad Maia is the obvious choice when looking for potential sleeper picks. She's a two-time tournament winner on grass this season, so she comes into Wimbledon with plenty of momentum. She was also in the quarter-finals at the Viking International Eastbourne and could potentially come into Wimbledon, having won three tournaments in a row.

Others who have a past history of success who could return to form at Wimbledon include Petra Kvitova (+2200), Garbine Muguruza (+2200), Bianca Andreescu (+2200), and Angelique Kerber (+2500).
