2023 Stanley Cup Championship Betting Odds & Picks

For the first time since 2001, the Colorado Avalanche are Stanley Cup champions. Fittingly, Colorado is already heading into next season as the 2023 Stanley Cup favorites.

The Avs are the favorites to go back-to-back, with the runner-up Tampa Bay Lightning not far behind. However, there are a number of interesting teams worth betting on if you’re looking to place a futures bet on next year’s Cup.

Even though the Stanley Cup playoffs are known for their unpredictable nature, the best teams often have a title window lasting multiple years. That bodes well for the Avs to repeat in 2023.

The Penguins and Lightning are two repeat champions in recent years, with Pittsburgh going back-to-back in 2016 and ‘17 and Tampa winning in ‘20 and ‘21. Colorado has the talent of each of those clubs, but a youthful core of Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar should result in sustained success.

With a Western Conference-leading 56 wins in the regular season and an impressive 16-4 postseason record, the Avs are clearly the team to beat out west. Regardless of any offseason losses they suffer, they should easily be Stanley Cup favorites until proven otherwise.

Vegas Golden Knights (+1500)

The Golden Knights missed the postseason for the first time in franchise history. However, it was more to do with a string of unlucky injuries than a lack of talent.

Vegas received just 39 games from Max Pacioretty, 37 from Mark Stone, and 34 from Jack Eichel. With all three All-Star caliber players back in the lineup next year, the Knights should immediately become division favorites at worst and challenge Colorado for the top spot in the West.

Of course, Vegas’ salary cap situation means the likely event of moving on from a couple of players this summer. However, their core is still Stanley Cup caliber.

New York Rangers (+2000)

When the Rangers upset the Hurricanes in the second round and won the first two games of the ECF against Tampa, it seemed like NYC was on the verge of a long-awaited championship. While it ultimately didn’t pan out for the Blue Shirts, they have a chance to be special next season.

The Rangers have veteran studs like Artemi Panarin, young stars like former Norris winner Adam Fox, and arguably the league’s top goaltender in Igor Shesterkin. That alone should help New York contend next season before you factor in further developments from its young players and possible offseason splashes.

New York was two wins away from a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. If the Lightning and Panthers are each forced to shed salary this summer, don’t be surprised if the Rangers contend for the top seed in the East and much more.

Los Angeles Kings (+3500)

Of all of the teams with longer odds of winning the Cup, the Kings are easily the most intriguing. However, you’ll want to make sure you bet them before the free-agent period officially begins.

Following a three-year rebuild, LA returned to the playoffs in 2022. The year ultimately ended with a first-round loss to the Oilers, but it proved that the Kings are ahead of schedule. But don’t expect the team to stop there, as they’re widely expected to hunt for a big offseason splash like Filip Forsberg or Kevin Fiala.

Adding a proven star to a club with battle-tested vets like Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty is a recipe for success. Top it off with a great young core and a league-best farm system, and next year could be the start of another Kings championship window.
