Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox May 11 Betting Preview

Monday’s hero, Josh Naylor, continued to be hot as he hit his fifth home run of the season in the defeat. Amed Rosario added three hits in the loss.

Cleveland will send righty Aaron Civale to the mound Wednesday for the finale. This season, he is 1-2 with a 9.45 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, and has 22 strikeouts in 20 innings. In his last start, he picked up the win despite giving up four runs in 5.2 innings.

Chicago will send 29-year-old righty Vince Velasquez to the bump to square off with Civale. In five games this season, Velasquez is 2-2 with a 3.97 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and has 21 strikeouts in 22.2 innings.

Cleveland currently has the second-best scoring team in the league as they are averaging 4.97 runs per game (5.29 on the road). The White Sox rank 25th averaging 3.50 runs per game.

Defensively, it is the White Sox with the edge. In terms of scoring defense, Chicago ranks 17th allowing opponents an average of 4.07 runs per game. The Guardians rank 25th allowing 4.52 runs.

Cleveland Tries To Steal Win On Getaway Day

With their next series against the division-leading Minnesota Twins, the Guardians would love to steal the finale of this series as they look for momentum heading into Minnesota.

One player who is certainly doing his part is 24-year-old Josh Naylor. He has his three home runs in the last two games and is now hitting .347/.377/.611 with five home runs and 22 runs batted in overall.

Against Velasquez, Naylor is two for three against the righty in his career. Oscar Mercado has also had some success in limited at bats against Velasquez as he has a home run and three runs batted in.

White Sox Look To Start New Win Streak

After having their six-game win streak snapped in the opener Monday, the White Sox got back into the win column Tuesday and will look to start a new winning streak. To do so, they look for their offense to take advantage of a struggling Aaron Civale.

One player to keep a close eye on is shortstop Tim Anderson. In 17 career at bats against Civale, he is hitting .412 with three home runs and five runs batted in.

Yoan Moncada and Luis Robert have also had success off of Civale. Moncada is hitting .400 in 15 at bats with two runs batted in while Robert is hitting .455 in 11 at bats with a home run.

Can Civale Contain White Sox Bats?

In all five starts this season, Aaron Civale has given up at least four runs. Against the odds-on favorites to win the division, that just isn’t going to cut it.

If this pace continues, it will be interesting to see how long manager Terry Francona sticks with Civale in the rotation, but for now, Cleveland fans are hoping he can get the job done against the division-rival White Sox.

While he has had a decent start to the season, Vince Velasquez is certainly a step down from what Cleveland saw on Tuesday in Lucas Giolito. If Civale can at least limit the damage, the Guardians have a good shot of putting enough offense together to pull out the win.

If Civale is bad, though, this could be a disappointing finale for Guardians fans.
