Cleveland Guardians vs. Kansas City Royals Wednesday September 7 Betting Preview

The Cleveland Guardians (70-64) will look to finish the sweep Wednesday as they take on the Kansas City Royals (55-82) in the finale of their three-game series. The Royals will host this one at Kauffman Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 8:10 p.m.

The Guardians took the second game of the series on Tuesday 4-1. In the win, Shane Bieber went eight innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven. Offensively, the Guardians piled up 10 hits, including two apiece by Andres Gimenez and Myles Straw. Jose Ramirez had two runs batted in for the Guardians.

Kris Bubic took the loss for the Royals. He went six innings, allowing three runs on six hits.

The only damage that the Royals’ offense did was a Salvador Perez solo home run in the fourth innings. Aside from that, the Royals had just three other hits, including two from Michael Taylor.

The Guardians come in as the favorites Wednesday. They are (-134) to win while the Royals’ moneyline sits at (+115). The runline features Kansas City +1.5 (-154), and the over/under for total runs is 7.5.

Pitching Matchup

Cleveland will turn to 25-year-old righty Cody Morris to try to complete the sweep. He has pitched in just one major league game in his career, going just two innings and allowing two runs while striking out three.

Kansas City will counter with 38-year-old veteran Zack Greinke. In 21 games, he is 4-8 with a 4.14 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and he has 64 strikeouts in 108.2 innings.

Cleveland Looks To Stay Hot Ahead Of Series With Twins

With the Minnesota Twins game being postponed on Tuesday, the Guardians were able to move to 1.5 games ahead of Minnesota in the AL Central. With a pivotal three-game series coming up with Minnesota this weekend, the Guardians will look to stay red hot entering that series.

Jose Ramirez and Andres Gimenez have been the hottest hitters for the Guardians over the last month. In that span, Ramirez is hitting .263/.330/.444 with five home runs and 21 runs batted in. Gimenez is hitting .318/.396/.489 with three home runs and ten runs batted in over that same span.

Against Greinke, Austin Hedges is the only hitter to have homered against the righty in his career. Ramirez (.273 in 11 at-bats) and Amed Rosario (.333 in 15 at-bats) have also had some success.

Royals Looking To Salvage The Finale

At 55-82, the Royals’ struggles continue as they now sit 16.5 games out in the AL Central. While the Royals have no realistic shot at a playoff berth, they will at least look to save face by trying to salvage the finale.

32-year-old catcher Salvador Perez is putting together another solid year this year. Although he hasn’t quite hit for the explosive power he did last year, he still has 20 home runs, 65 runs batted in, and 40 runs scored in 364 at-bats.

While no one on the Royals has faced Cody Morris, Bobby Witt Jr has been one of their best hitters against righties. He is hitting .251/.296/.429 with 14 home runs and 50 runs batted in against right-handed pitchers.

Cleveland Looks To Finish Sweep

While it is nice to secure a series win, at this point, every win matters for the Cleveland Guardians. As three teams are separated by just three games in the AL Central, and with eight games remaining against the Twins, the Guardians will look to give themselves as much breathing room as possible.

It is asking a lot of Cody Morris to give them a few solid innings on Wednesday, but if he can, the Guardians might be able to finish the sweep as they look to enjoy the day off Thursday ahead of the Twins series starting Friday.
