U.S. Open Golf Betting Preview: Betting Odds For 2022 U.S. Open

While the Canadian Open is in full swing, it is never too early to preview next week’s 122nd playing of the U.S. Open at The County Club in Brookline, Massachusetts.

The U.S. Open returns to The Country Club for the fourth time in the course’s history and the first since 1988. The Country Club is one of the oldest courses in the United States and was one of five clubs that founded the United States Golf Association.

Jon Rahm is the defending U.S. Open champion after a dramatic closing stretch with birdies on 17 and 18 to win his first major title. Rahm’s six-under four-day total was one shot better than runner-up Louis Oosthuizen. Harris English was solo third at three-under, and Brooks Koepka, Guido Migliozzi, and Collin Morikawa finished a two-under.

Tournament play begins on Thursday, June 16th, with four days of individual stroke play competition, and ends on Sunday, June 19th.

The Country Club

The property dates back to 1882, and the golf course was built in 1893. The golf course grew in stages with no particular architect, but William Campbell was the club professional during the expansion of the second nine holes, and many credit him for the development. Prior to the 1988 U.S. Open, the course brought in Rees Jones for renovations in preparation.

There are 27 holes on the property, and the configuration uses holes from each nine for tournament play when a longer layout is necessary. The course is over 7,200 yards in length and plays as a par-70. The old course presents many holes with tree-lined fairways and small green complexes.

U.S. Open Field

Now that Final Qualifying is completed, the field is almost set for next week’s event. The field is one of the largest for a major championship, with 156 players expected to tee it up next week. There are 91 fully-exempt players in the field, with the rest qualifying for a spot through local and final qualifying stages across the globe.

Rahm returns to defend his title, along with the world no. 1 and Masters champion Scottie Scheffler. Justin Thomas, fresh off his second PGA Championship title, will try to take home back-to-back majors. 

Two-time major champion and defending Open champion Collin Morikawa looks to add his third major title to his resume at 25-years-old. Rory McIlroy posted solid finishes at the Masters and PGA Championship and would love get back into the major winner’s circle for the first time in eight years.

One note regarding the field, the USGA announced earlier that players that participated in the LIV golf event the week prior will be still eligible to play in the tournament even with no current status on the PGA Tour.

Early U.S. Open Betting Favorites

The cream rises to the top with the betting favorites for the 122nd U.S. Open. 

Rahm (+1100) is the early betting favorite, with Scheffler and Thomas right behind at +1200.

Cameron Smith and Xander Schauffele, players searching for their first major victories, join Dustin Johnson at +1600. Johnson won his first major title at this tournament in 2016. Two-time U.S. Open winner Brooks Koepka follows at +1800.

Jordan Spieth (+2000), Bryson DeChambeau (+3300), and Gary Woodland (+8000), all recent past winners, are notable value plays for this year’s tournament.
