Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds April 5 Betting Preview
We have another rubber match on Wednesday as the Cincinnati Reds will be taking on the Chicago Cubs for their third game of a three-game series. Cincinnati was able to come away with an impressive 7-6 win in the opening game of the series, while Chicago bounce back and came away with a 12-5 win in game two.
This game could be a bit interesting given the fact that both of these teams could struggle at any given moment. However, both teams have played well to start the season, and that could lead to an exciting matchup. We also have a good matchup on the mound as Marcus Stroman is going to be going up against Hunter Greene.
The sportsbooks currently think that the Cubs are going to come away with this win as they come in as a slight favorite at -112 on the moneyline.
Marcus Stroman Must Dominate
The Chicago Cubs bounced back in the best possible way on Tuesday as they were able to come away with an impressive 12-5 win. They did so behind some of their new additions as Dansby Swanson ended up scoring two runs, Cody Bellinger had three hits, and Trey Mancini also scored two runs.
If those guys can continue producing for Chicago and the arms can come around, this could be one of the sneakier teams in baseball this season. Although it's expected that they're still going to struggle a bit, Chicago might be better than most did expect coming into the season.
Chicago will still be in for a tough task, but if this team can continue producing as they have, this season might be a bit better than expected. It might be tough for them to beat teams like the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central, as those two squads are expected to be at the top of the division once again.
Can Hunter Greene Get Going?
The Cincinnati Reds have one of the brighter futures in Major League Baseball and that's going to be on display this Wednesday.
Hunter Greene is going to have another start and the youngster has shown throughout the past year that he can be one of the top arms in baseball when he's at his best. He had a somewhat disappointing start to the season last year, but then he was able to find himself and start throwing like the ace that Cincinnati is hopeful that he can be.
He had a rough start in his first outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, throwing for just 3.1 Innings and allowing three earned runs. He did strike out eight in that game, but his command was an issue once again.
Cubs vs. Reds Prediction
Although it's tough to bet on the Chicago Cubs to win a second game in a row, it's also tough to take the Cincinnati Reds to win another game. Because of that, it might be a better idea to go with the better arm here and that is Marcus Stroman. If he comes out and can limit this below-average Reds lineup and the Cubs can give anything offensively, Chicago should be able to come away with this win.
