Cleveland Guardians' Jose Ramirez talks to Seattle Mariners' Carlos Santana and Julio Rodriguez

There are no better words in a baseball fan’s vocabulary than “Opening Day”. Believe it or not, the start of the baseball season is here, and baseball fans are ready for the 162-game marathon. As of right now, every team thinks they have a shot to win the World Series.

The final game of Opening Day features two American League teams coming off of playoff berths last season, as the Seattle Mariners will host the Cleveland Guardians at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. Both of these teams are looking to build off of last season’s playoff runs. We should have a good one here.

We’ll now give a brief preview of each team, and then we’ll give you our best betting advice on this Opening Day matchup.

Cleveland Guardians

Cleveland is coming off of a great season in 2022. They’ll be looking to make another playoff run this season. With Jose Ramirez, one of the top players in the American League leading the way, this lineup has the potential to put up some runs.

Along with Ramirez, the Guardians have some very good young players in the lineup. Andres Gimenez, Amed Rosario, and Steven Kwan have the ability to get on base and do good things. Josh Bell was signed as a free agent to bolster the power of the lineup.

The Guardians will throw their ace, Shane Bieber, in the season opener. Bieber was 13-8 last season with a 2.88 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. He struck out 198 hitters in just over 200 innings pitched. Bieber has one of the best breaking balls in the league, and when he is on, he’s hard to hit.

Seattle Mariners

Seattle is looking to unseat the Houston Astros atop the American League West. Seattle has built a pennant contender, and the Mariners feel that they’re ready to make a run at a World Series Championship. With a good young pitching staff, and a lineup full of potential, this team will be a pennant contender.

The lineup will be led by rising superstar Julio Rodriguez. Last year’s American League Rookie of the Year has the makings to be one of the games biggest starts. He along with Ty France, free agent-signee Teoscar Hernandez, Eugenio Suarez, and J.P. Crawford, makes up a formidable lineup.

The Mariners will send Luis Castillo to the hill. Castillo was acquired near the trade deadline last season. He was lights out at T-Mobile Park, going 31 innings with a 1.42 ERA and 42 strikeouts. He finished the season with an 8-6 record with a 2.99 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.

Betting Prediction

In looking at the lines, the one that intrigues us the most is the over/under. The oddsmakers have set the over/under at 6.5 runs. In the past, the pitchers have had the advantage over the hitters to start the season.

It normally takes the hitters a few weeks to get into a groove, so the pitchers tend to take advantage of this. With both teams throwing their aces in this one, we would lean towards taking the under in this one.
