Baker Mayfield Is A Top 100 NFL Player
Don't let some random list on the internet fool you.
Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is a Top 100 player in the NFL.
On Tuesday morning, CBS's Pete Prisco released a list of the top 100 players in professional football. Mayfield's name was not on that list.
As I scrolled through the top of the list, big-name quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady did not surprise me much. Even names like Dak Prescott and Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert didn't shock me.
But then I kept scrolling and couldn't find Baker's name.
This list had Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins and Joe Burrow all ranked above Mayfield.
Where Was Mayfield Ranked?
The list bunched Mayfield into a "JUST MISSED" category that also featured quarterbacks Derek Carr and Ryan Tannehill.
While this list included every position in football, a quarterback that was one drive away from potentially making an AFC Championship birth should be included among the league's best, regardless of position.
Mayfield ranked behind Burrow, Ryan, Cousins and Herbert, but also Kyler Murray and Matthew Stafford. Russell Wilson, Josh Allen, Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson were all in the Top 30.
Why Should Mayfield Be Top 100?
In their first three seasons, only two players in NFL history have thrown for at least 11,000 passing yards, 75 throwing touchdowns and an 89 passer rating.
Baker Mayfield and Dan Marino.
According to PFF, only MVP Aaron Rodgers was better than Baker Mayfield after Week 7 of last season. Mayfield finished as PFF's eighth-ranked quarterback in 2020.
As everyone knows, Mayfield helped carry the Browns to an 11-5 record and the team's first playoff appearance since 2003.
"There's Always Next Year"
The famed quote takes on a slightly new meaning as the Browns and Mayfield will have expectations again coming into their 2021 season.
Mayfield didn't come into his own until the second-half of Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals once Odell Beckham Jr. went down with an ACL injury. This year, Mayfield needs to be crisp out of the gate, especially against the regining AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Mayfield is +3300 to win the NFL MVP award. The Browns are +1600 to win the Super Bowl.
If Mayfield takes the Browns to where they want to go, sports writers will have no choice but to include Mayfield on the top of every list.
