Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp celebrate a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals.

The biggest game on the NFL calendar, arguably any sports calendar, is upon us. On Sunday, the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams will duke it out for the right to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LVI.

The Rams will look to become the second team in as many years to win the championship on their home turf. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers accomplished the feat in 2021 after no team did it in the 54 years prior. Meanwhile, the Bengals are young, hungry, and on the precipice of pulling off one of the more improbable runs in recent memory.

Can their magical run continue? That’s for another article. In this piece, we’re going to look at the best prop bets for the big game, and perhaps we’ll be able to surmise the winner based on our projections in that space.

Matthew Stafford OVER 280.5 passing yards / Cooper Kupp OVER 104.5 receiving yards

We’ll start with the most obvious. The Stafford-Kupp connection has been arguably the best in the league this year, and these two will have to have success together Sunday in order for the Rams to win.

Kupp went for more than 92 yards in 16 out of 17 regular-season games this year and eclipsed his O/U total in two out of L.A.’s three playoff wins. The only exceptions both came against Arizona, where blowouts dictated a different game script. Cincy’s secondary deficiencies have been well-documented, so both QB and WR should have positive nights.

Bengals to win 3rd quarter (+155)

The orange and black were the NFL’s best team coming out of halftime this year, and getting plus money in this situation is very enticing. The Bengals outscored their opponents by 73 points total in the third quarter this year, the league’s highest differential.

Plus, despite advancing to the Super Bowl, the Rams are down 25-14 in third quarters in their three playoff games entering Sunday. Ja’Marr Chase has been the man in period number three, so keep an eye on his production in that frame coming out of the locker room.

Joe Mixon over 95.5 total rushing and receiving yards

The Pro Bowl running back may not have a ton of success running against an imposing defensive line led by Aaron Donald and Von Miller, but he will get his fair share of opportunities.

Mixon averaged more than 21 carries a game in the playoffs so far and 98.6 yards combined rushing and receiving. Cincy’s run rate has dropped 10% over their last six games, and the Rams are only allowing 3.9 YPC, but Mixon’s target share is up and could see plenty of volume if the team finds itself trailing in the second half.

Will the game go to overtime? YES (+1040)

A risky prop for sure, but good value if you consider that each of the last six postseason games have been tied with under two minutes left. Each of the Bengals’ three playoff games ended via the walkoff, and both teams won on the final play in the championship round.

By this same logic, you could also bet on the game being tied again after 0-0 (at just -110). You can bet on anything, as a matter of fact. Just do it responsibly and enjoy the action.
