Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers Sunday Night Football Bet Preview and Picks

One of the oldest rivalries in all of football will be renewed on Sunday Night Football this week when the Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field.

Green Bay enters this game as a massive 12.5-point favorite, as they look to remain in the mix for the top seed in the NFC playoff race. But the Bears have a different goal in mind, as they look to shock the top team in their division and spoil their shot at a first-round bye.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have gone into a tailspin, losing six of their last seven games, with their one win over that time frame coming against the Detroit Lions. Last week, the Bears were beaten by double figures at home by the Arizona Cardinals, with Andy Dalton being unable to compete with the high-powered Cardinals offense. This week, another quarterback switch is in the cards, as Chicago is set to go back to Justin Fields.

Fields has been cleared to play in this game after having to sit out in recent weeks due to injured ribs. With Fields back on the field, the Bears have a more mobile quarterback who can keep defenses guessing. But his lack of ability to read NFL defenses and make quick decisions at this early stage of his career can also make Fields a liability in clear passing downs for the Bears offensively.

Green Bay Packers

Green Bay enters this game at 9-3 on the season, coming off of their bye week ahead of this rivalry game. In their last game, the Packers beat the Los Angeles Rams at home, scoring 36 points in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score indicated.

Now the Packers will look to go into the final five-week stretch of their season with some momentum on offense, as the last two games have been very encouraging for Aaron Rodgers and company.

The Packers have averaged 33.5 points per game against the Vikings and Rams in their last two times out. Chicago is without Khalil Mack for the rest of the season, which should make things easier on Rodgers and the Packers’ passing game to keep scoring at that kind of level.

But there is no such thing as an easy game in the NFL, and the Packers will have to remain focused on their opponent here to avoid an upset.

Keys to the Game

Chicago’s biggest key to this game is going to be whether or not they can get pressure on Aaron Rodgers with their pass rush. Rodgers is simply lethal when he has a lot of time to throw, and the Bears’ pass rush is severely compromised with Mack out for the year. Chicago will have to figure out a way to get bodies to Rodgers quickly to avoid getting carved up in the secondary.

Green Bay’s biggest key to this game will be their defense. The offense of the Packers appears to have figured things out over the last few weeks. But if the Packers allow Justin Fields and the Bears offense to get into the 30s somehow, they could end up in a closer game than they’d like.
