Jaguars running back Travis Etienne fakes taking a handoff from Trevor Lawrence against the Browns

Friday night will be the first time the new-look Cleveland Browns will take the field as they head to TIAA Bank Field to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars are already 0-1 in the preseason as they lost 27-11 to the Las Vegas Raiders in the Hall of Fame Game last week. Without further ado, let’s dive into both teams to determine where we should be placing our wagers for this game.

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have already announced that we will see some of their new quarterback Deshaun Watson in the opening preseason game.

However, the depth in the preseason is critical and they have backups that play the same playstyle with Jacoby Brissett, Josh Dobbs, and Josh Rosen in the quarterback room. Brissett is expected to start in place of Watson until he returns from his suspension. Dobbs and Rosen should play a solid amount of the second half of this game and play extremely well here against backup defenses.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be at a different point in their preseason schedule as this is their second game of the preseason. Trevor Lawrence did not play in the first game at all, but both he and running back Travis Etinenne are set to play for this game.

With a new coaching system in place as Doug Pederson is now manning the sidelines, it will be important to see how he does in this game and continue to show improvements off of his rookie season. C.J. Beathard, Jake Luton, and Kyle Sloter are also expected to play. Sloter was 13-for-25 with 127 yards with a touchdown in the first game of the preseason.

Cleveland Browns vs Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Prediction

The Cleveland Browns have a brand new quarterback in Deshaun Watson, but his ineligibility to play at least the first six games of the regular season could mean some issues for the team as a whole. However, Doug Pederson is implementing an entirely new system in Jacksonville as well so both teams are around the same page on that.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is 3-0 in the preseason in his career while Doug Pederson is hovering around .500 at 8-9 throughout his coaching career, so Stefanski knows how to challenge some of his fringe players into stepping up.

It will definitely be interesting to see the rookie wide receivers of David Bell and Michael Woods II for the Browns as they are expected to have a bit of an impact on the NFL roster if they make it. I’m also excited to see running back Jerome Ford step up and play a big role as he battles with D’Ernest Johnson, especially after the Kareem Hunt trade request.

All in all, go with the Cleveland Browns to win on the road and cover the 1.5 point spread in this game as they have the better depth than the Jacksonville Jaguars.
