Cleveland Cavaliers Need to Trade Up in the 2021 NBA Draft
As it currently stands, The Cleveland Cavaliers hold pick No. 3 in the upcoming NBA Draft. It does, however, appear that the Cavaliers may be interested in trading
up.
According to ESPN's Jonathon Givony the Cavaliers are one of several teams that have discussed the possibility of trading up with the Pistons for the first overall pick.
This begs the question: Is it Cade Cunningham or is it Jalen Green?
How high are the Cavaliers on both prospects?
Cade Cunningham is a 6-foot-8 point guard with the ability to both score and
facilitate. Cunningham could slide right into the Cavaliers roster and make an
immediate impact – providing the Cavaliers with the perimeter-play maker they
have been missing over the last three years.
Jalen Green is a 6-foot-6 Shooting Guard that can score from anywhere on the floor. Green has the potential to be a “once in a generation” scorer in the NBA. His length, quickness and effort provide him the ability to defend any position on the
perimeter.
Green is believed to be rivaling Cunningham for the first pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Do the Cavaliers need to make a move to ensure either Cade Cunningham or Jalen Green end up in a Wine and Gold uniform?
The answer is yes – but at what cost?
Personally, I think landing either prospect would put the Cavaliers “rebuild” on a fast track and a return to postseason glory, in coming seasons.
Therefore, a move needs to be made. In fact, a move should have been made yesterday. Instead, we sit here refreshing Twitter in hopes of a “Woj Bomb” announcing the Cavaliers have made a trade to move up in the draft.
I would give up pick No. 3 and a protected first-round pick in 2022 to move up either one or two spots. Anything beyond that, however, could be risky for a team in the midst of a three-year rebuild.
With that being said, it’s time for the Cavaliers to get bold - it’s time for the Cavaliers to show this fan base they will do whatever it takes to bring a superstar to Cleveland – it’s time for the Cavaliers to return to the playoffs.
