Cleveland Guardians vs. Seattle Mariners August 25 Betting Odds & Analysis
Thursday features the first of a four-game American League series between playoff contenders as the Cleveland Guardians (66-56) take on the Seattle Mariners (67-57). The Mariners will host this one at T-Mobile Park with first pitch scheduled for 4:10 p.m.
The Guardians are coming off of a two-game sweep over the San Diego Padres, including a 7-0 victory on Wednesday. Cleveland slugged 13 hits including two home runs by Jose Ramirez. On the day, he went three for three with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Oscar Gonzalez also homered in the victory.
Seattle did not have as much luck as they split their last series, losing Wednesday’s finale 3-1 to the Washington Nationals.
Julio Rodriguez continued his torrid rookie season as he hit his 20th home run of the season. Unfortunately for Mariners’ fans, the offense wasn’t able to get much else going in the defeat.
August 25th Guardians Betting Odds
The Guardians are the slight favorite to win the opener despite playing on the road. They are -116 to win while the Mariners’ moneyline sits at -102. The runline features Seattle +1.5 (-176), and the over/under for total runs is 7.5.

Pitching Matchup
The Guardians will send 25-year-old righty Triston McKenzie to the mound for Thursday’s opener. In 23 games, he is 9-9 with a 3.11 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and he has 138 strikeouts in 141.2 innings. He was superb in his last start against the White Sox, going seven innings, allowing two runs and striking out 14 in a win.
Seattle will counter with southpaw Marco Gonzales. The 30-year-old is 8-12 in 24 games with a 4.08 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and he has 75 strikeouts in 134.2 innings.
Guardians Try To Keep Rolling
Having won four of their last five games, the Cleveland Guardians sit atop the AL Central standings, four games ahead of the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox. With both teams still in striking distance, they will look to win the first game of this four-game series on the road, where they are 34-31 this season.
Against lefties this season, Jose Ramirez continues to be the Guardians’ best hitter. In 112 at bats versus southpaws, he is hitting .259/.339/.491 with six home runs and 21 runs batted in. In his career, he is three for four against Marco Gonzales.
In the last month, Andres Gimenez has been red hot. In his last 86 at bats, he is hitting .326/.414/.535 with four home runs, 14 runs batted in, 14 runs scored, and eight stolen bases.
Mariners Clinging Onto Wild Card
At 67-57, the Mariners sit second in the AL West. Still, 12.5 games behind the Astros in the division, the Wild Card is the most likely path to the postseason for Seattle. Currently holding the third Wild Card spot, Seattle is trying to cling onto a two-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles.
Julio Rodriguez continues to be the favorite to win the AL Rookie of the Year award at -430. In 417 at bats this season, he is hitting .271/.328/.475 with 20 home runs, 64 runs batted in, 63 runs scored, and 23 stolen bases.
Eugenio Suarez has also had a nice season. Despite hitting .229/.336/.444, he has 23 home runs, 71 runs batted in, and 60 runs scored.
Keep an eye on Mitch Haniger and Dylan Moore Thursday. Combined, they are three for five against McKenzie with two home runs and five runs batted in.
McKenzie Looks To Stay Hot
Triston McKenzie has quietly been one of the best pitchers for the Cleveland Guardians this season, and he may be the key to a Guardians’ win Thursday. In his last seven games, he is 3-3 with a 2.42 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and has 54 strikeouts in 48.1 innings.
The Guardians have struggled at T-Mobile Park in recent series, going just 2-4 in their last six games there. However, on the road, they have been much better as of late going 8-1 in their last nine games away from Progressive Field.
For Seattle, they are 8-4 in their last 12 games at home, but if McKenzie can limit the damage by the Mariners’ offense, Cleveland has a great opportunity to put some runs on the board against Marco Gonzales and pick up another win to start this four-game series.
