Pitcher wins may be a dying statistic in Major league Baseball, but it is something that people pay attention to. A pitcher who is able to accumulate a positive win-loss record typically is having a solid season on the mound. However, there are excellent pitchers who happen to be on teams with poor offenses and therefore don't accumulate many wins.

With that in mind, today, we are going to take a look at the pitcher with the best odds to lead MLB in wins in 2022.

Previous Seasons

The pitcher who leads baseball in wins typically has three main things going for him.

First, he is usually on a team that scores enough runs to consistently provide him with a lead. Secondly, he is able to work deep into games. And to cap it off, he obviously needs to produce other impressive numbers.

A bonus aspect of it all is the team needs to have a good bullpen as well.

In 2021, Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias led baseball in wins. Urias certainly fit all of the aforementioned criteria playing in Los Angeles.

In 2020, Shane Bieber and Yu Darvish finished with the league lead for wins. Darvish produced a quality campaign and had a mighty San Diego offense backing him. Bieber's Cleveland offense was far from the best in baseball, but he also was the 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner.

In 2019, Justin Verlander led baseball in wins with 21, and Gerrit Cole finished right behind him with 20. They both posted elite numbers while playing for teams with loaded offenses.

With all of this in mind, there is a very good chance that the 2022 wins leader will be on a team with a great offense and will be someone who posts All-Star caliber numbers.

Odds and Pick

The Dodgers currently have the best odds to win the World Series. They have a number of pitchers who could have great seasons, including Walker Buehler and Urias. Los Angeles also features arguably the best offense in all of baseball.

However, the Braves loaded up on bats over the offseason as well, and they have pitchers like Max Fried and Ian Anderson on the roster.

One team that is also interesting is the Chicago White Sox. Lance Lynn posted an ERA under three in 2021 and tends to work deep into games. He ended up with only 11 wins in 2021, but he also missed some time due to injury.

Zack Wheeler of the Phillies is an interesting candidate. The right-hander led baseball in innings pitched last season, and Philadelphia has built a very talented offense. However, Wheeler is presently dealing with an injury, so that is something that could hold him back.

But if he is able to recover without issue, he could be near the top of the wins leaderboard.

So who is our pick to lead the MLB in wins?

Walker Buehler of the Dodgers has everything working for him. He is a Cy Young caliber pitcher who finished second in innings pitched a season ago. He will also get away with wins even on days where he is lacking his best stuff because of the Dodgers' insane lineup.

Barring injury, Buehler is a tremendous bet to lead the majors in wins in 2022.
