The San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals will play in an NFC West rivalry game on Monday Night Football to close out Week 11. But, there is a little novelty to this rivalry game, as they are going to play in Mexico at the legendary Estadio Azteca.

There, both teams will look for a key win, as this division is still very much there for the taking in the second half of the NFL season.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are coming off of a win on Sunday Night Football in their last outing, beating the Los Angeles Chargers in that contest. The defense of the Niners stepped up in a big way in that game, holding Justin Herbert and company to just 16 points. Now, the 49ers will look for a primetime victory for the second straight week in this contest against the 49ers.

Once again, the 49ers will lean on their defense to win this game, as that has been their strength all season long.

San Francisco ranks first in the NFL in total defense so far this season, and they are the only team in the NFL allowing under 300 yards per game to their opponents. If they can hold the Cardinals in check in this contest, they could enjoy another win in primetime this season.

Arizona Cardinals

For the Arizona Cardinals, this season has not gone particularly well, but they did get a win last week over the Los Angeles Rams. In that game, Colt McCoy played quarterback for the Cardinals and outperformed the John Wolford led Rams.

This week, it will be McCoy on the field once again for the Cardinals, as he plays in the place of the injured Kyler Murray.

With McCoy on the field against one of the best defenses in the league, the running game of the Cardinals will be very important to their hopes of winning in Mexico City.

James Conner is recently returned from an injury himself, and he will get a ton of work here after the Cardinals let go of running back Eno Benjamin. Conner and the rest of the running game for the Cardinals will be called upon to make things as easy as possible on McCoy.

Keys To The Game

The biggest key to this game applies to both teams, and that is the altitude that will be a factor in Mexico City. This venue is one that gives Mexico a huge advantage in soccer against other countries, as the altitude typically makes it harder for opponents to keep their breath. That will be a potential issue for both teams, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

In football, defenses tend to gas out late in games anyway, as the toll of defending snap after snap really adds up. That could be even worse in this contest, which means that second-half scoring could come fast and furious.

At the very least, bettors will want to keep an eye on the second half over/under that is posted before the second half kicks off.
