Washington Football Team vs. Dallas Cowboys Sunday Night Football Bet Preview

The Washington Football Team and Dallas Cowboys have met once already this season, with the Cowboys destroying Washington in that first contest. Here, the Cowboys will host the Football Team on Sunday Night Football, with the Cowboys favored by 10.5 points ahead of this matchup. And with the Football Team having just played on Tuesday, they are in for an uphill climb if they want to steal a win here.

Washington Football Team

The Washington Football Team lost its second straight game to a division opponent on Tuesday, when they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in a game that was rescheduled due to COVID issues for Washington. They were without their current starting quarterback in Taylor Heinicke, who was one of their COVID list absences for the Philadelphia game. But Heinicke is expected to be back this week for Washington, who will look to avoid a second loss in a five-day period.

While the return of Heinicke is important for Washington, their defense will need to be better if the Football Team is going to avoid a third straight division loss. Washington has allowed 27 points in back-to-back games against the Cowboys and Eagles, which is a problem given that their offense isn't all that good. They will need to find a way to hold the Cowboys in check to avoid asking their offense to do too much.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas has won three straight games, beating the New Orleans Saints, Washington Football Team, and New York Giants consecutively. They are going to win the NFC East this season and can start looking toward a new goal of improving their playoff seeding, starting with Sunday night against Washington. But this game is far from a guarantee for the Cowboys, who will still need to execute on both sides of the ball to pick up an 11th win on the season.

Fortunately for the Cowboys, their offense has been playing at close to a championship level as of late. Outside of last week, where they were held to 21 points by a tough Giants defense, the Cowboys have scored 27 or more points in three straight games. Dak Prescott has come back nicely from early-season injuries, and the Cowboys have to feel confident that this offense is good enough to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Keys To The Game

The biggest key to this game for the Washington Football Team is to slow down Dak Prescott and the Cowboys' offense. Washington's offense isn't good enough to win many shootouts, which puts the burden on their defense to keep them within striking distance at all times. Whether or not they can actually do that remains to be seen, but the mandate for the Washington defense is clear here.

On Dallas' side, the major key to this game is going to be whether or not they can simply avoid overlooking the Washington Football Team. Dallas has a date with the Arizona Cardinals set for Week 17 and could come out flat if they are thinking ahead to next week. But with so much on the line in terms of seeding over the next three weeks, that shouldn't be too big a concern.
