Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Betting Preview
After 284 NFL games dating back to the first week of September, we are down to one final game. It is the Super Bowl vs. the two top seeds in each division, and the two quarterbacks who received All-Pro honors this season.
Three Super Bowls In Four Years
Kansas City has been here more than any other team since Patrick Mahomes came into the league. In fact his three Super Bowl appearances in the first six years of his career is a mark shared by only Tom Brady.
The Chiefs as a team have been to three of the last four Super Bowls, and a number of their players not only bring talent to Arizona, but also big-game experience. But similar to the Eagles, who have nearly turned over their entire roster since they last played in this game, the Chiefs have 21 players that were added this year, and more than 30 that joined the Chiefs after their appearance in Super Bowl LV.
But Mahomes has been a constant, Travis Kelce has been a constant, and Andy Reid has been a constant. Is that enough to tip the scales in their favor?
Wire-to-Wire Champions?
Maybe not after their close Week 1 win over the Lions, but since the Eagles manhandled the Vikings in Week 2 on Monday Night Football, they have been the class of the NFL.
The Eagles were the last team to lose in 2022, and with Jalen Hurts in the lineup, that lone loss to Washington was the only one they took. Philadelphia can clobber you with a great offense that finished third in the regular season in scoring. They scored 40 points against the Packers, 48 against a good Giants defense, and in two playoff games, they averaged nearly 35 points.
They can dominate you with defense, finishing the season as the eighth-ranked scoring defense in the league. They held the Vikings to just 7 points, and they allowed just 14 points overall in the postseason. They led the NFL in sacks, and made a run at the all-time sacks record. The Eagles had four players with double-digit sacks, which is the first time that has happened in NFL history.
Chiefs vs. Eagles Matchup
The Eagles come into this game as slight 1-point favorite, and the over/under for the matchup is 50.5. There are also reasons to like both teams.
Philadelphia has the best-passing defense in the league because they have the best pass rush in the league. But they’ve largely played second-tier quarterbacks, and they haven’t faced anyone like Mahomes in 2022. In 2021 they did play Mahomes, and he beat them for five touchdown passes.
The Chiefs have the experience, the Eagles are seen as more well-rounded, and everyone agrees that Eagles offensive coordinator Shave Steichen is a great offensive mind. But Andy Reid is perhaps the best offensive mind in the NFL, and when he gets two weeks to prepare for an opponent, he is an incredible 28-4, including a win over Jacksonville in the Divisional Round.
