Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox September 21 Betting Preview

After winning a monumentally important game on Tuesday, the Cleveland Guardians (81-67) will look for their second win over the Chicago White Sox (76-72) in as many days on Wednesday. The White Sox will host this one at Guaranteed Rate Field, with first pitch scheduled for 8:10 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Guardians won a crazy one 10-7 in 11 innings. Of the 17 total runs, 11 of them were scored in extra innings. Steven Kwan may have had the biggest night as he went four for six with two runs batted in and two runs scored.

For the White Sox, it was an epic collapse as Kendall Graveman and Jake Diekman combined to give up seven total runs in two innings of work in extras. A.J. Pollock had three hits, including a two-run home run.

The White Sox are the favorites playing at home on Wednesday. They are (-127) to win, while the Guardians’ moneyline sits at (+112). The runline features Cleveland +1.5 (-193), and the over/under for total runs is 7.5.

Cleveland Looks For More Separation

With their win on Tuesday, the Cleveland Guardians now hold a five-game lead with just 14 left to play over the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central. With just two games left against Chicago, they would love to secure a series win on Wednesday.

Taking the mound for Terry Francona’s club will be righty Triston McKenzie. In 28 games, he is 10-11 with a 3.08 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, and he has 167 strikeouts in 172.1 innings.

In his last three starts combined, McKenzie has given up just five earned runs in a combined 19.2 innings of work. In that span, he has given up 16 hits and struck out 18.

Offensively, keep an eye on Jose Ramirez in this one. In 29 total at-bats versus Chicago’s Lance Lynn, Ramirez is hitting .345 with four home runs and eight runs batted in.

Andres Gimenez and Austin Hedges have also taken the righty deep. Myles Straw is hitting .333 in 18 at-bats with two runs batted in.

Do Or Die For White Sox

Tuesday felt like a must-win game, but Wednesday is absolutely do-or-die if the White Sox want any chance of winning the AL Central and earning a postseason berth. Even with a win Wednesday, the White Sox would be in a tough position to overcome the Guardians at this point.

Trying to even up the series for Chicago will be a veteran righty in Lance Lynn. He is 7-5 in 18 games with a 3.99 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, and he has 113 strikeouts in 103.2 innings of work.

Lynn has been absolutely electric as of late, winning four straight games. In that span, he has allowed just three earned runs in a combined 26.1 innings.

Albeit in just six at-bats, Seby Zavala has had success against Triston McKenzie. He has just two hits, but both of those hits are home runs to go along with five runs batted in.

Guardians Look To Upset White Sox

Wednesday night should be a really fun matchup between the Guardians and the White Sox. On the one hand, Lance Lynn has been one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball over the last few weeks. On the other hand, the Guardians have won eight of their last 10 games coming into play.

It will be interesting to see how Chicago responds Wednesday. After a back-breaking loss on Tuesday, will they fold or fight until the end?

It won’t be easy for Cleveland with Lynn on the mound, but if Triston McKenzie can limit the damage from the White Sox, the Guardians could extend their divisional lead to six games and secure a series win.
