The Blue Jackets come into Saturday with 34 points, which is good enough for fifth place in the Central Division. Columbus is just three points shy of the Chicago Blackhawks, but they are also being pressured by the Nashville Predators.

Detroit has won just 10 games this entire season, and they come into play on Saturday with 24 total points. The Red Wings are in last place of the Central Division and aren’t a real threat to win many games.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are -160 in this matchup with the Detroit Red Wings.

Columbus Can Take Charge

Columbus has not been an explosive offensive team this season, but they have a big advantage in this game. The Blue Jackets are averaging 2.56 goals per game while allowing more than 3.1 goals against.

Oliver Bjorkstrand leads the team with 12 goals and 16 assists, but he can’t keep being the only offensive threat. Special teams play has been an issue for the Blue Jackets all season long, but this could be a game where it gets turned around.

The Blue Jackets have converted on just 15 percent of their attempts on the power play, but Detroit has struggled to kill off penalties. Look for Columbus to be in attack mode on Saturday afternoon in an attempt to take control of the game.

Detroit Doesn’t Score Goals

The Detroit Red Wings are scoring just 2.1 goals per game, and this team does not put much pressure on opponents. Filip Hronek leads the team with 17 assists and 18 total points, while Robby Fabbri has a team-high nine goals.

Not only have the Red Wings really struggled to score goals, but they have also had a tough time slowing down opponents. Detroit is allowing 3.3 goals per game, and that is even after trying to control the tempo.

The Red Wings are in last place of the Central division for a reason, and they don’t do anything particularly well.

Big Opportunity For Blue Jackets

The Central Division is loaded with terrific teams, but the Detroit Red Wings are not one of them. Detroit has really struggled this season, and this weekend will give Columbus a chance to make a run up the standings.

The Blue Jackets are going to try and push the tempo in this game as they have way more talent than the Red Wings. Detroit just does not provide much of a threat with their offense, and that will allow Columbus to take some chances.

Columbus needs to find a way to get back into the playoff race, and it can start with a win on Saturday. The Blue Jackets are the better team on paper, and they should be able to control this game from start to finish.
