Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups for NFL Week Nine
If you are preparing yourself for a Fantasy Football Championship run this season, the NFL Week Nine waivers could really help you solidify your lineup and bench spots, as there are some good pieces.
Today, we will highlight three players you should be targeting as they are set to have a pretty eventual week and could be the difference between a win and a loss in the future.
C.J. Uzomah, TE (Cincinnati Bengals)
The tight end position always seems like a position where you work yourself into a shoot unless you have one of the top three players at the position. However, C.J. Uzomah has been an effective play lately as he is getting targets, especially in the red zone. Last week against the New York Jets, he finished with four catches on four targets for 33 yards.
He already has five touchdown receptions and could be in line for another as he takes on the Cleveland Browns, and their defense has been struggling a bit against the tight end as they are allowing 6.2 fantasy points per week to the position.
With Joe Burrow looking to improve after an upset last week, look for Uzomah to get the football going his way to continue moving the sticks.
D’Ernest Johnson, RB (Cleveland Browns)
You can never have too many quality running backs, and that is why picking up D’Ernest Johnson could be a steal. Check your league as some people dropped him for his dud performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week as he had four rushes for 22 yards and a touchdown as well as a seven-yard catch.
However, Kareem Hunt is still out with a calf injury and isn’t expected to be back anytime in the near future. The Bengals allow 17.5 points to the running back position this year, and Johnson is getting goal-line snaps, so pick him up and hope he gets some touches in the red zone.
Taysom Hill, QB (New Orleans Saints)
The news came out early Monday that Jameis Winston has a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the regular season, and that opens the door for Taysom Hill to return to being the starter, which he was for four games last season.
In those four games, he averaged 208.5 passing yards, 52.3 rushing yards, and two TDs (one passing, one rushing). Look at the weapons that New Orleans has that allowed them to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with their third-string quarterback. Michael Thomas could be activated for this game, and that will only help open the offense even more.
Then, we have the idea of going against the Atlanta Falcons defense. They are giving up 3.4 touchdowns per game this season, and Taysom Hill is a threat where Atlanta could consider leaving a quarterback spy on him. If not, Hill can use his legs.
He is expected to pass concussion protocol and be active so go with an easy defense where he can get solid fantasy production.
