The New York Knicks were heavily favored to acquire Donovan Mitchell in the offseason. However, the Cleveland Cavaliers swooped in out of nowhere and prevented the New York native from suiting up for his hometown team, as they built a contending team seemingly overnight.

Both teams are loaded with lots of exciting young talent, as they’ll likely be a part of the Eastern Conference Playoff picture for years to come.

Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Preview

The Cavs are coming off a huge win over the Boston Celtics up in Beantown, as Donovan Mitchell and Caris LeVert both dropped 41 points apiece, becoming the first Cavs duo to do so since LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

LeVert struggled to find his niche in Cleveland last season but has seemingly found it, as his ability to create his own shot, make plays for others and guard multiple positions will be instrumental in making this Cavs team a success.

Mitchell wasted no time getting acclimated to his new home, as he is averaging 31.0 points, 6.4 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game, leaving little doubt who the best player on this team is.

Jarrett Allen has recorded at least one block in every game this season, with the exception of the first game, and with the Knicks’ tendency to attack the rim, Allen could easily have multiple chances to get a rejection in this game.

New York Knicks Betting Preview

Jalen Brunson is exactly what the Knicks need; he is the guy that finally appears to provide stability at the point guard position in decades.

Brunson is averaging 18.6 points, 7.2 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Julius Randle is embracing his role as the primary scorer of this team, as he’s averaging 19.0 points per game.

RJ Barrett is averaging 18.2 points per game as he hopes to finally prove his worth as the third overall pick just a few seasons ago.

The Knicks aren’t going to beat you with their offense. Their team is just not built to outscore their opponents.

However, they boast one of the strongest defensive units in the league, with is a huge testament to coach Tom Thibodeau’s influence on that side of the floor.

Odds

The odds for this game favor the Cavs with a spread of -5.

The Cavs will be back home for this one, as Mitchell will be sure to come out with an edge to him.

The Knicks were reportedly not willing to meet the Utah Jazz’s asking price to acquire the All-Star guard over the summer, so this is something the New York native may choose to take personally.

Regardless of Mitchell’s motivations, there’s no reason to believe that the Cavs can’t win this game and cover the spread with ease.
