Week 6 of the 2022 NFL season will begin with a primetime Thursday Night Football matchup between the Washington Commanders and Chicago Bears.

Both teams come into this game with losing records, with the Commanders at 1-4 and the Bears at 2-3. However, both teams will also come into this game with confidence in knowing that there is a beatable opponent on the opposing sideline in this matchup.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders won their first game of the 2022 NFL season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Since then, they have lost four straight games, including last week’s on a goal line interception against the Tennessee Titans.

Here, the Commanders will look to end their losing streak in a game where they enter as a pick ‘em on the road on a short week to prepare for action.

For the Commanders, Carson Wentz will need to do a better job of leading the team to successful scoring drives. Washington has scored the third-fewest points among NFC teams so far this season, outperforming only the Bears and Rams on the year.

Wentz and his inability to consistently deliver the ball under pressure is a big reason for their offensive struggles heading into Week 6.

Chicago Bears

Last week, the Chicago Bears nearly pulled off a massive comeback against the Minnesota Vikings but fell just short in the fourth quarter. That loss dropped them to 2-3 on the year, though there were some encouraging signs from their offense in that game.

Justin Fields broke the 200 passing yard mark for the first time this season, and he will look to do so again when he faces Washington on Thursday night.

This season, the Bears are 2-0 at home and are aiming to extend their home winning streak to three games on the season in this contest. Chicago has one very impressive home win on the year already, as they took down the San Francisco 49ers in their season opener.

While Washington is not an opponent on the level of the 49ers, they do still have the potential to beat Chicago if the Bears cannot get their offense in gear.

Keys To The Game

The biggest key to this game for the Commanders is their running game.

Washington is averaging well under 100 yards per game on the ground this season, and their inability to move the ball on the ground has put way too much of the offensive burden on the shoulders of Wentz. If they can find some sort of rhythm on the ground in this game, the Commanders could look a whole lot different offensively.

Meanwhile, the biggest key to this game for the Bears is going to be taking care of the football. We know that the Justin Fields led offense of the Bears is far from explosive, but they can win this game by simply playing the field position game against an inept Washington team.

That can only happen if they take care of the ball and avoid turnovers that put their defense in bad spots.
