The Cincinnati Bearcats are coming off their best season in their long history, where they got their first College Football Playoff berth. 

They were taken down by the Alabama Crimson Tide 27-6, but their perfect regular season will not go unnoticed coming into the 2022 season.

The Bearcats did lose some key players from last year, including quarterback Desmond Ridder who was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons, and cornerback Ahmad Gardner who was drafted by the New York Jets. This season will test how good Luke Fickell can prepare his team for a new season without key veterans in his lineup.

Let’s look ahead at the Cincinnati Bearcats and what their expectations are coming into the 2022 season.

Over/Under Odds

The Cincinnati Bearcats are set at 9.5 total games that they are expected to win this season. Their odds to go over nine wins is -120, and under nine wins is +100.

They are coming off a perfect season last year before losing to Alabama, which obviously blows the nine-game expectation out of the water. The question is: Can the Bearcats run it back again with another stellar season.

Schedule Outlook: Cincinnati Bearcats

Similar to their rivals up north on I-71, the Cincinnati Bearcats start off their season with one of their toughest battles of the season on the road against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Arkansas is the heavy early favorite in that contest, but the Bearcats will need this win in week one to give them a chance at another playoff berth.

The Bearcats will finish out their non-conference schedule with three games at home against Kennesaw State, Miami, Ohio, and Indiana. They will, then, play two games against Tulsa on the road and South Florida at home before their BYE week.

They will go on the road for two weeks straight against SMU and UCF before returning home for three out of the last four games of the season. They will play Navy, East Carolina, and Tulane at home and Temple on the road in the second to last week of the regular season in that stretch.

Expected Total Win Count

These Bearcats will be different from what we were seeing from them last season, but Luke Fickell has changed the culture around at Cincinnati. I expect the Cincinnati Bearcats to go over nine wins regardless of what happens in week one against Arkansas. If they are able to steal that win on the road, I will have no doubts about them hitting that number.

Besides Arkansas on the road, I am confident in the Cincinnati Bearcats to win the last three non-conference games at home. Cincinnati is projected first in the AAC and won’t even play Houston, who is projected No. 2.

Their toughest tests in conference play will be against UCF and SMU, who are projected three and four in the conference and will both be on the road in consecutive weeks.

With an upset in week one against Arkansas, another perfect 12-0 season is a real possibility.
