The St. Louis Blues welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets for their home opener and their first game of the season. For their part, the Columbus Blue Jackets haven't had the best start to the 2022-23 NHL regular season. And, yes, that's an understatement.

We'll review the Blue Jackets season so far and the important info motion from the Blues preseason for your betting ticket today. Puck drop for the Blue Jackets vs. Blues is scheduled for 8:00 p.m on Friday, October 15th, from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Columbus Blue Jackets Betting Preview

The Columbus Blue Jackets are having a difficult start to the 2022-23 season. Patrik Laine is on the injured reserve, and the Blue Jackets have opened the season with an 0-2-0 record.

In those two games, Columbus has averaged 1.5 goals per game and has not scored a power-play goal yet. There is a reason that the Blue Jackets are such heavy underdogs on the moneyline.

Danil Tarasov has started both of the Blue Jackets' games to start the season against two of the better teams in the Eastern Conference: the Tampa Bay Lighting and the Carolina Hurricanes.

Tarasov has an 0-2-0 record, with a 4.50 goals-against average and a .890 save percentage. Good news, everyone! Elvis Merzlikins has been upgraded to day-to-day and will return to the line-up soon, giving the Blue Jackets a much-needed boost in net.

More good news! Johnny Hockey got his first goal as a Blue Jacket to open the scoring in Friday night's 5-2 loss to the Lightning, while Gustav Nyquist scored his first goal of the season.

The Blue Jackets might have opened the season with a pair of losses, but there is some silver lining in the foreboding storm clouds hanging above Columbus' 2022-23 season.

St. Louis Blues Betting Preview

We are officially a week into the season since the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks opened the 2022-23 NHL regular season in Prague, Czech Republic. The St. Louis Blues will finally join the rest of the NHL in the regular season welcoming the Blue Jackets to Missouri for the Blues home opener.

St. Louis did play the Blue Jackets twice in the preseason. In their first matchup, the Blues won 4-2 on September 29th, while the Blue Jackets won 7-0 on October 6th. Thomas Greiss started both games for the Blues, who did not have their opening-day roster on the ice in either matchup.

Without playing a game, the St. Louis Blues are heavy-betting favorites for Saturday night's matchup with the Blue Jackets. Just like bookmakers, we expect all hands on deck for the St. Louis Blues in their home opener, including Jordan Binnington starting in the net.

This is looking like a tough Saturday night for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Our Prediction

It's looking like a difficult start to the 2022-23 regular season will continue for the Blue Jackets, as the St. Louis Blues are the better team on paper, and the Jackets are playing on back-to-back nights.

We're leaning toward picking the Blues to cover the puck line spread of -1.
