Corey Kispert Ruined My Night and Should Be Investigated
Last night’s heart-wrenching loss for the Cavs was somewhat overdue. They have been playing phenomenal basketball to start the season, but the absences of Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, and Kevin Love were too much to overcome.
Even worse, Cleveland was leading by nearly 10 points in the fourth quarter, and a few late defensive breakdowns cost them a shot at claiming a tie for first place in the East.
All of those things are disappointing, but Corey Kispert made the entire day so much worse with just one play.
With just 3.1 seconds on the clock, the Wizards threw an unexpected deep inbounds pass, catching the Cavs off balance. Corey Kispert received the ball with just over a second to play and zero Cavaliers players in his vicinity. A respectful NBA player holds on to the ball and lets the clock expire, but not Kispert. This ignoramus decided to shoot a layup to push the score to 97-94.
You may be asking yourself, “why does this even matter, Cleveland already lost”? Unfortunately, the spread of this game was +3 for the Cavs. I wouldn’t be mad if there was more time left on the clock, but Kispert could have just ended the game. His poor decision-making did allow the Cavs one more chance to tie the game. If I was Wizards’ head coach, Wes Unseld Jr., I would bench Kispert for the entire next game, and maybe even the rest of the season.
You can’t make plays that allow the other team another chance to win! Lastly, the NBA should without a doubt investigate Kispert to see if he was betting on this game. There’s just no other explanation to shoot the ball in that situation. If Adam Silver has any dignity, the first thing he will do today is at least send the FBI to question Kispert.
In the wise words of Ayesha Curry: “I’ve lost all respect sorry this is absolutely rigged for money… Or ratings I’m not sure which. I won’t be silent. Just saw it live srry.”
