Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday Night Football Betting Preview
The Kansas City Chiefs travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers in a Super Bowl rematch.
While the concern in Florida stretches far past a football game, the Buccaneers and the NFL are ready to brace for any impact from Hurricane Ian and secure a win at home on Sunday Night Football.
The Chiefs are coming off a close loss to the Indianapolis Colts. There was some concern about how the Chiefs offense looked in the second half. The offense was flat, and they couldn't do enough to pull a win out.
Patrick Mahomes did show some early chemistry with wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, but the loss of Tyreek Hill still loomed largely. Tight end Travis Kelce has stepped up, but things need to come together for this current iteration of the Kansas City offense.
Andy Reid and Eric Bienemy are offensive masterminds, but there has been some clear frustration between the OC and the team. On defense, the Chiefs will rely on getting to Tom Brady often.
The Chiefs defense has racked up 10 sacks on the season so far and will look to attack any weak points on the Buccaneers offensive line.
The Chiefs surrender about 22 points per game on average to opposing teams this season but the inclement weather may be a factor in bringing that average down significantly.
The Bucs and Tom Brady also suffered a tight loss to the Green Bay Packers last week and are looking to get their offense going despite a litany of injuries in their pass catcher room. Mike Evans sat out due to a suspension, while Chris Godwin and Julio Jones are both banged up and questionable to play.
The Buccaneer's defense has looked stout despite the loss and has recorded five interceptions and three fumble recoveries in these past three weeks. Even more impressive is that they have only allowed 27 points total to opposing teams.
The Bucs defense wants this win bad, and shutting down Mahomes is no easy task.
The Favorite: Chiefs (-132)
The Chiefs come in as the slight favorite as they appear to be the healthier team overall. The spread sits at -1.5 (-115), and it's safe to assume that this game will stay close. Tampa Bay is 6-1 against the spread in its last seven games against AFC West opponents, which says a lot considering how tough that division can be.
The passing game might not be much of a factor due to the turbulent weather provided by Hurricane Ian, so there could be a chance that Tampa Bay continues their streak of hitting the under as they have in four of their last five matchups. Mike Evans will be back for the Buccaneers, and the hope is that Julio Jones and Chris Godwin can find their way on the active list before Sunday night. Regardless, expect this game to be dominated by the run.
Leonard Fournette has been a solid contributor as the Buccaneers workhorse back, but he’ll need to turn his opportunities into scores early.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerrick McKinnon look to tote the rock for Kansas City with some consistency, but the Buccaneers front line led by the dominating Vita Vea is a tough mountain to climb.
