Now the real fun begins in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) as there is a full slate of conference matchups on the schedule in Week 5. This conference is known to provide some interesting and surprising results, but also some terrific matchups.

The real MACtion will take place on Saturday for the first time all season, and there are some great betting opportunities. Here are the three best MACtion bets of the weekend.

Western Michigan Broncos -6.5 at Buffalo Bulls

The 2-2 Buffalo Bulls host the 3-1 Western Michigan Broncos on Saturday in a game that could affect the conference title race. Buffalo wants to play fast and run the football while Western Michigan will control the clock and do damage through the air.

The run defense for Western Michigan will play a major factor in this game as the Broncos are giving up just 129 rushing yards per game. The Broncos also have quarterback Kaleb Eleby playing well as he has thrown for 902 yards and no interceptions.

Buffalo has a more conventional attack then it did a season ago, but it is still Kevin Marks Jr. leading the way. The senior running back has 254 yards and three rushing touchdowns this season, and he has to find some holes.

Buffalo won’t make this easy on Western Michigan, but the road team is simply better. Take Western Michigan -6.5 as they win and cover the spread.

Akron Zips +9.5 vs. Ohio Bobcats

The Akron Zips host the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday in a huge rivalry game in the state of Ohio. Both teams have really struggled to begin the year, but that won’t matter as these teams will want to beat the other on Saturday.

Ohio has not yet won a game in 2021, and they are giving up over 280 rushing yards per game. That defense is going to be a problem against an Akron team that will look to establish the run.

Akron has been blown out in all three losses this season, but those have all come against quality opponents. The Zips have done some things well in those games, and that should give them some confidence in this matchup.

It’s hard to predict which team will play better on Saturday, but this is going to be a close game. The best bet is to take the 9.5 points and bet on the Zips to cover at home against the Bobcats.

Central Michigan Chippewas ML at Miami (OH) Redhawks

The best game of the day should take place in Oxford, OH, as the Redhawks host the Central Michigan Chippewas. Central Michigan is 2-2 on the year, while Miami (OH) is just 1-3.

Both of these teams are allowing 27.5 points per game this season, and that should mean that this turns into a high-scoring affair. That style of the game tends to favor Central Michigan more on Saturday as they have a more balanced offensive attack.

This game is going to be tight throughout, and playing at home will give Miami a slight edge. In the end, it won’t matter, though, as Central Michigan has a rushing attack that racks up nearly 180 yards per game.

One score will decide this one, but it will be Central Michigan that picks up an important win on the road.
