Coming from Kent State University, the Golden Flashes are the 19 varsity athletic teams that represent the school. Kent State University is a member of the Mid-American Conference and has been a part of the East Division since the division’s creation in 1998. Their official school colors are blue and gold. 

Several teams from Kent State have tasted success both at the national and at the Mid-American Conference level, with the university producing champions in wrestling and track and field. Many Golden Flashes alumni have gone on to compete and coach in college and professional sports, such as Nick Saban, Jack Lambert, and Antonio Gates. 

Brief History of the Golden Flashes

After their founding in 1910, Kent State University wasted no time in setting up their athletic program. The first sporting event was held in 1913, with an inaugural basketball game playing out at the university. In 1920, the football team followed suit and hosted their first game, too, although it was a 0-6 loss to Ashland College. 

Around the same time, the Kent State sports teams were given the nickname Silver Foxes. Less than five years later, the president who named the team Silver Foxes was controversially fired, and the new administration chose Golden Flashes as the nickname for their sports teams, although there was no significance attached to the name.

Throughout most of the 20th century, the Golden Flashes had mixed success in the football competition. However, over time, their football credentials greatly improved as they were given the coveted Division 1 categorization under the National Collegiate Athletic Association or NCAA.

Spreads

Spread bets are slightly different from moneyline bets since the wager isn’t based solely on the outcome of a match. Instead, spread bets are decided based on the margin of a result. Since these bets are based on margins, they give players the opportunity to place lucrative bets on both sides. 

If we consider an example in which the Flashes are given a -8.5 spread against the Falcons in a football game, your bet on the Flashes will only pay out if they defeat the Falcons by 9 points or more. Likewise, if you were to bet on the Falcons, they would have to win the game or lose by a margin of 8 points or fewer for your bet to win. 

Total Score Bets (Over/Under Betting)

Total score bets or over/under bets are interchangeably used terms that refer to the same type of bet. In a total score bet, the sportsbook determines a number for the aggregate score (both teams’ scores put together), and you bet on whether the aggregate will be over or under that figure. 

Let’s imagine that a sportsbook has the aggregate score at 38 for a game between the Flashes and the Falcons. In an over/under bet, you’ll be placing a bet on whether you think the actual score will be over or under that - not the exact score, just the zone it will end up in.

Parlays

Seasoned betters often place many bets on the several different outcomes that are possible in a game or across multiple games.
